Tracing Slavery in the USA

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce lehce nastiňuje historii otroctví a průběh občanské války v Americe. Představuje pět měst, která jsou s tímto obdobím určitým způsobem spojená. V těchto městech se odehrála důležitá událost, například bitva, podepsání důležitého dokumentu nebo se zde nacházely plantáže, vzbouřili se otroci apod. Pro ucelenou představu o městě jsou zde popsány i jiné městské památky. V poslední části této práce jsou zobrazeny životy několika osobností, které bojovali za svobodu a práva otroků, nebo jim pomáhali utéct od svých pánů.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis delineates the history of slavery and the course of the Civil War. It introduces five cities that are connected with this period. The cities are important because of: The important battles that took place there, the significant document was signed there, the plantations were situated there or slaves that revolted there. So there are many reasons to mention them. The other local landmarks are also described in order to form an idea about the cities. Also, the autobiographies of several persons who, in some fashion, helped slaves or fought for their freedom and rights are depicted in the last chapter.
