Vliv provenience jasanů na intenzitu odumírání způsobené Hymenoscyphus fraxineus

Abstract:

Odumírání jasanu je závažné onemocnění jasanu ztepilého (Fraxinus excelsior) a dalších druhů jasanů (Fraxinus spp.), které se v Evropě rozšířilo od poloviny 90. let 20. století. Původcem onemocnění je vřeckovýtrusá houba Hymenoscyphus fraxineus. Vnímavost a tolerance jasanů k infekci způsobené H. fraxineus je řízena geneticky, i když jen malá část evropských populací F. excelsior (1–5 %), je k tomuto onemocnění tolerantní. To však ukazuje na perspektivu šlechtitelských programů zaměřených na produkci sadebního materiálu F. excelsior, který je k onemocnění tolerantní. Hlavním cílem předložené práce bylo prozkoumat vliv provenience jasanu na intenzitu ochoření a odumírání s ohledem na růstové charakteristiky sledovaných stromů. Pro účely výzkumu byly založeny provenienční pokusu zahrnující F. excelsior a jasan úzkolistý (F. angustifolia) na 5 pokusných plochách po celé ČR. V rámci práce byla porovnána citlivost obou druhů jasanů (j. ztepilý a j. úzkolistý) k onemocnění. Celekem bylo testováno 16 proveniencí jasanu ztepilého a 2 provenience jasanu úzkolistého. Efekt provenience představuje část vnitrodruhové variability, kterou lze vysvětlit adaptacemi místních populací jasanu na přírodní podmínky lokality. Byly analyzovány rozdíly mezi lokalitami a proveniencemi jasanů v náchylnosti jasanů k houbové chorobě. Hlavní důraz byl kladen na fenotypovou variabilitu zkoumaných populací jasanů ve výšce a šířce stromů a jejich zdravotním stavu. Ukázalo se, že F. angustifolia je zdravější a lépe přežívá ochoření než F. excelsior. U F. angustifolia byl prokázán nižší podíl infekce (ADB skóre které je definováno jako průměrné poškození stromu způsobené infekcí H. fraxineus se zaměřením na přítomnost nekróz a epikormických větví v koruně jednotlivých stromu) než u F. excelsior. ADB skóre j. ztepilého vyšlo 5,08, zatímco u j. úzkolistého tato veličina dosáhla hodnoty 3,70. Dále byla u F. angustifolia vyšší míra přežití (44,75 %) než u F. excelsior 27,2 %. Sledované stromy jasanu úzkolistého byly vyšší (průměrná výška 9,71 m) než u j. ztepilého (7,51 m). Na základě osobního pozorování na jaře 2015 a 2016, byla zaznamenána nižší intenzita kvetení F. angustifolia na všech 4 pokusných plochách kde byly oba druhy společně vysazeny (Tvrdonice, Kroměříž, Búrová a Deštná). Provenience z jihovýchodu ČR, obvykle v nižších polohách (Tvrdonice 160 m n. m., Kroměříž 201 m n. m. a Búrová 474 m n. m.) a lužních lesích měly lepší míru přežití a vyšší střední výšku stromů. Také měly menší ADB skóre ve srovnání s proveniencemi z Čech (Deštná a Koněprusy). Výsledky práce potvrdily významnou fenotypickou variabilitu u obou druhů jasanu a taky v rámci různých provenienci jasanu ztepilého. Provenience j. ztepilého vysazené na plochách na jihovýchodní Moravě (Tvrdonice, Kroměříž a Búrová) si přežívaly lépe, stromy byly méně infikované a vyšší ve srovnání s proveniencemi z Čech (Deštná a Koněprusy). U dvou provenienci jasanu ztepilého (č. 19, Ronov nad Doubravou – Běstvina a č. 24, Český Krumlov – Chvalšiny) byla zjištěna signifikantní pozitivní odezva spočívající v zlepšujícím se zdravotním stavu stromů na pokusných plochách s nižší intenzitou infekce (Tvrdonice, Kroměříž a Búrová). Mezi dvěma provenincemi F. angustifolia nebyl zjištěn významy rozdíl.

Abstract:

Ash dieback (ADB) is a serious disease of Fraxinus excelsior and other ash species (Fraxinus spp.) which has become widespread in Europe since the mid-1990s. Causing agent of the disease is ascomycetous fungus Hymenoscyphus fraxineus. Susceptibility and tolerance of ashes to the infection caused by H. fraxineus was proved to be under genetic control and small fractions of European F. excelsior populations (1–5 %) are likely to be tolerant to the disease. This documents the perspective for future breeding programs intended to produce more tolerant plant reproductive material of F. excelsior. The main aim of the proposed thesis was to investigate the impact of ash provenances on the intensity of ash dieback considering the survival rate and growth characteristics. For the purpose of the research, the provenance experiment including F. excelsior and F. angustifolia (16 provenances of F. excelsior and 2 provenances of F. angustifolia) was established at 5 experimental plots all over the Czech Republic. Provenance effects represent the part of intraspecific variation attributable to the adaptation of local populations to different site conditions. The differences among sites and ash provenances in the susceptibility of ash trees to the ash dieback disease were analyzed. Main emphasis was given to the phenotypic variability of investigated ash populations in heights, and health condition of trees. Also, we investigated and compared responses of common ash and narrow-leaved ash to the pathogen infection. For the ADB scoring purpose we used a protocol according to which trees are classified into 10 vitality classes (1−10) with focus on the presence of necrosis, dead and epicormic branches in the crowns. The class no. 1 represents a healthy tree without any visible damage on branches, class no. 9 represents a dead tree damaged due to ADB and no. 10 represents a dead tree damaged by other causes than ADB. F. angustifolia showed to be healthier and better at surviving the disease than F. excelsior. Narrow-leaved ash was less infected (ADB score =3.70). Also F. angustifolia was growing more vigorously (main height = 9.71 m) and had bigger survival rate (44.75 %) in comparison to common ash which was more infected (ADB score = 5.08), trees were smaller (average height 7.51 m) and survival rate was lower (27.2 %) across all experimental plots. The significant differences were revealed in the ash dieback intensity in different site plots of the experiment. More suitable sites with healthier F. excelsior are at alluvial sites. Similar results were found for F. angustifolia which resulted as healthier with good performance on alluvial sites. Nevertheless, lower flowering intensity of F. angustifolia was noticed during the spring 2015 and 2016 due to ADB at all 4 experimental plots where both species were planted (Kroměříž, Tvrdonice, Búrová and Deštná). Furthermore, provenance of the plant reproductive material was found to have a significant effect on the infection, survival rate and growth of ash across the different plots. F. excelsior provenances (16 provenances in total) planted at the plots situated in the southeast of the Czech Republic (Tvrdonice, Kroměříž and Búrová) performed better, trees were less infected and higher in comparison to provenances from west of the Czech Republic (Deštná, and Koněprusy). Two provenances of F. excelsior (Provenance no. 19, Forest district Ronov nad Doubravou – Běstvina and Provenance no. 24, Forest district Český Krumlov – Chvalšiny) revealed significant positive response in their improving health at experimental plots with lower mean ADB score (Tvrdonice, Kroměříž and Búrová). No significant difference was found between F. angustifolia provenances, which performed equally well at all 4 experimental plots.
