The Jews in Ostrava and their life in the Czech-German city-culture

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the Jewish people in Ostrava and their life stories before and during the Second World War in the context of the Czech-German urban culture. The thesis is divided into three main parts. The main concepts such as the Holocaust, Final Solution to the Jewish Question and the history of Jewish people in Ostrava including their associations and Zionism are explained in the first theoretical part. In the second part, I deal with the methods which were used to draw up the practical part of this bachelor thesis. The awareness and the opinions of the respondents of the Stolpersteins are what I deal with in the third practical part. The main goal of this bachelor thesis is to raise awareness of Stolpersteins among the inhabitants of Ostrava and to figure out another way how of honouring the victims of the Holocaust. Then determining the attitudes and opinions of people of different ages by using the questionnaire to find out about the ways and places they suggest for honouring the victims.

Abstract:

Diese Bachelorarbeit befasst sich mit den Juden in Ostrava und ihre Schicksale im Kontext der deutsch-tschechischen Stadtkultur vor und während des zweiten Weltkrieg. Die Arbeit ist in drei Hauptteile gegliedert. Im ersten theoretischen Teil sind die Hauptbegriffe, wie Holocaust, Endlösung der Judenfrage mit Geschichte von Juden in Ostrava, ihre Vereine und auch Zionismus erläutert. Im zweiten Teil beschäftige ich mich mit den angewandten Methoden, die für das Ausarbeiten des praktischen Teils dieser Bachelorarbeit genutzt wurden. Im dritten praktischen Teil beschäftige ich mich mit dem Bewusstsein von Stolpersteinen und auch mit den Meinungen von Befragten. Das Ziel der vorliegenden Bachelorarbeit ist Erhöhung des Bewusstseins von Stolpersteinen zwischen Bevölkerung der Stadt Ostrava und eventuell andere Weise erfinden, wie man Opfer des Holocaust ehren könnte. Weiter anhand der Umfrage, die Ansichten und Meinungen der Menschen verschiedener Altersgruppen festzustellen, welche Weise und Orte wären sie vorschlagen.
