Adaptation of the family to the acquired physical disability of an adult family member

Abstract:

Diplomová práce zkoumá proces adaptace rodiny na tělesné postižení některého z jejích členů. Obsahuje dvě hlavní části - teoretickou a praktickou. V teoretické části je popsána problematika tělesného postižení a procesu adaptace na složitou životní událost. V praktické části jsou formou kvalitativního výzkumu zpracována data, získaná od informantů, kteří s tělesným postižením mají zkušenosti. Pozornost je zaměřena na proces adaptace a zvládání stresu v souvislosti se závažnou životní situací. Cílem diplomové práce je zjistit, jak probíhala adaptace členů rodiny na postižení jejich blízké osoby, a zda jim zdravotníci v tomto období byli nápomocni.

Abstract:

The thesis examines the process of family adaptation to physical disability one of its members. It contains two main parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part describes the issue of physical disability and the process of adaptation to complex life event. In the practical part, data obtained from informants who have experience with physical disability are processed by qualitative research. Attention is focused on the process of adaptation and stress management in connection with a serious life situation. The aim of this thesis is to find out how the family has adapted to the disability of their loved one, and whether the health care workers have helped them during this period.
