Abstract:

This thesis delves into the potential of Augmented Reality (AR) to revolutionise logistics, aiming to identify how AR technology can enhance efficiency, accuracy, and user satisfaction within the supply chain. Through a critical analysis of scholarly articles and logistics company case studies and journal articles found in websites, the thesis explores the diverse applications of AR glasses and their transformative impact on specific tasks. The findings paint a compelling picture of AR's future in logistics. Integration demonstrably improves user satisfaction, evidenced by increased efficiency, motivation, and the well-being of its workers. AR glasses are a game-changer in warehouse operations, providing real-time inventory data and step-by-step picking/packing instructions, significantly reducing search times and errors. Training is revolutionised through immersive learning experiences with on-screen guidance displayed through AR glasses – particularly beneficial for complex tasks or new employees who can learn by doing. AR's benefits extend beyond training, streamlining maintenance and repair with real-time information for technicians, optimising navigation with efficient route displays in extensive facilities, and enhancing quality control with digital checklists overlaid on workers views. This thesis contributes to the growing knowledge of AR applications in logistics. While limitations exist, such as reliance on existing case studies and potential challenges in widespread adoption. The findings highlight a promising future for AR to transform the logistics landscape
