The mathematical definitions in contemporary French

Abstract:

The thesis with the title “La Définition en mathématiques en français contemporain” deals with the problems of mathematical definitions in contemporary French. It tries to offer a complete perspective for these types of definitions which belong to the sphere of exact sciences. In the introduction, it concerns the position of definition within the bounds of “exact science”, and at the same time, it tries to suggest the classification of mathematical definitions into groups. The main part of the work is about the analysis of thirty nine mathematical definitions, which was lifted from the French academic manuals. In this chapter, it speaks about every element which may be found in the definitions. Then it tries to propose a general definition on the basis of knowledge which we gain during the analysis. At the end of the thesis, there are two chapters concerning the vocabulary which we met in the thirty nine definitions, the position of the author, and how the author can influence the formation of definitions.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce s názvem "La Définition en mathématiques en français contemporain" pojednává o problému matematických definic v současné francouzštině. Pokouší se nabídnout úplný náhled na problematiku tohoto typu definic z oblasti exaktních věd. V úvodu pojednává o samotné pozici definice v rámci věd, pokouší se rovněž navrhnout rozdělení matematických definic do jednotlivých skupin. Podstatná část práce je věnována rozboru 39 matematických definic, které byly vybrány z francouzských vysokoškolských učebnic. Podává se detailní rozbor prvků, které se v těchto definicích potkávají. Na základě získaných poznatků se posléze pokouší navrhnout obecná struktura definice. V samém závěru práce jsou kapitoly věnované slovníku, s nímž se v oněch 39 definicích potkalo, a pozici autora, to znamená jak autor samotný může ovlivňovat tvorbu definice.
