Attitude of Chinese state towards new religious movements

Abstract:

Tato práce shrnuje základní charakteristiky dějinného vztahu čínského státu vůči náboženství bez ohledu na momentální mocenský režim. Za tímto účelem je rozdělena do několika částí. První se zabývá rolí náboženské v císařské Číně, spolu s uvedením zásadních pojmů formujících jejich vzájemný vztah – etablování náboženství do státních struktur, a to jako z hlediska tradičního konfucianismu, tak i taoismu a buddhismu. Další část uvádí historické pozadí tří čínských povstání, které jsou považovány za klíčové ve vývoji vztahů mezi císařskou mocí a náboženskými hnutími: Povstání Žlutých šátků a s ním spjaté Povstání Pěti měřic rýže, Povstání Červených šátků a Tchajpchingské povstání. Co se moderních dějin týče, tomu jsou věnovány další kapitoly, rozčleněné do období let 1912-1949, tedy období Čínské republiky, dále 1949-1976 – od vzniku Čínské lidové republiky do smrti Mao Zedonga. Kurz nastavený v pozdějších letech (1976-1989) a reprezentovaný politikou Deng Xiaopinga je charakterizován odklonem extremistické maoistické politiky kulturní revoluce a postupný příklon k pragmatismu, což se samozřejmě projevilo ve změně některých postojů vůči náboženstvím. Období po roce 1989 je charakterizováno nástupem Jiang Zemina, významnými rozkoly v Komunistické straně Číny a v 90. letech se náboženská politika dostala do takového centra pozornosti, jakého se nedostala ani v letech vlády Mao Zedonga. Dalším významným předělem ve vývoji vztahu čínského státu a náboženství byl rok 1999, kdy došlo ke známému protestu příznivců hnutí Falun Gong. Pro další výzkum tohoto tématu, zejména co se dalších intencí režimu týče, je nezbytné studium další podpůrné literatury, pokud možno podpořené překlady různých stranických materiálů a nejnovější čínské legislativy.

Abstract:

This work summarizes the essential characteristics of historical attitude of Chinese state towards religion, regardless of the current political regime. For this purpose is divided into several parts. First part deals with cooperation between religion and the state in terms of imperial regime with adding fundamental notions acting in their relation as a constitutive. This includes establishment of religion in government structures, as in terms of traditional Confucianism, as well as Taoism and Buddhism. Another section provides historical background of the three Chinese uprisings, which are considered crucial in the development of relations between imperial power and religious movements: Yellow Turban Rebellion linked to Five Pecks of Rice Rebellion, Red Turban Rebellion and Taiping Rebellion. Chapters devoted to modern history are broken down into the period 1912-1949, and a period of the Republic of China, 1949-1976 - from the emergence of PRC into the death of Mao Zedong. The course set in later years (1976-1989) and represented by Deng Xiaopinga policy is characterized by diverting extremist Maoist policy of Cultural Revolution and the gradual move towards pragmatism. This is reflected in the amendment of certain attitudes towards religion. The period after 1989 is characterized by the emergence of Jiang Zemin, major disruptions in the Communist Party of China. In the 90th the religious policy got into such a centre of attention, what is not, nor between the Government of Mao Zedong. Another important milestone in a relationship in the development of the Chinese State and religion was the year 1999, when the well-known Falun Gong supporters protested against the regime. To support further research on this subject, especially as regards the mode of other lines, it is necessary to support further study of literature, if possible, held up by translations of the various party materials and the latest Chinese legislation.
