Internal Migration of Population in the Eastern Part of the Czech Republic: A Regional-Geographic Analysis

Abstract:

Vnitřní migrace představuje významný komplexní indikátor, který současně odráží dynamické společenské a hospodářské změny i jejich dlouhodobé vývojové trendy. Od počátku 90. let, kdy bývala Česká republika v literatuře často označována jako země s nízkou prostorovou mobilitou a atraktivními středními městy, v níž se migrační pohyby uzavírají do úrovně okresů, a člověk se přestěhuje v průměru jedenkrát za život, došlo v uplynulých 25 letech k určitým výkyvům a změnám. Vnitřní migrace je rovněž, jak na příkladech vyspělých zemí západní Evropy uvádějí zahraniční autoři, často důležitějším přispěvatelem ke změně regionální populace než přirozený přírůstek, a to zejména díky vysoké mobilitě tzv. mladých dospělých. Východní část České republiky, pro potřeby práce vymezená území tří regionů soudržnosti (NUTS 2) – Jihovýchod, Střední Morava a Moravskoslezsko, rámcově korespondující s územím Moravy a Slezska, pak představuje z hlediska migračních schémat oproti zbývající části České republiky mírně odlišné území, ve kterém jsou migrační pohyby obecně menší. Celý vnitřně značně rozdílný prostor východní části České republiky je rovněž ovlivňován obecnými migračními trendy, a vedle vnitřních vypuzujících (push) a přitahujících (pull) faktorů, také silnými vnějšími, především socioekonomickými, pull faktory hlavního města Prahy a jejího zázemí. Předkládaná práce zkoumá vývoj vnitřní migrace obyvatelstva ve východní části České republiky v období 1991-2015 na pozadí celorepublikových trendů s cílem identifikovat a na základě deskriptivní a prostorové analýzy interpretovat signifikantní trendy ve vnitřní migraci, a to zejména u věkové skupiny 20-34 let („mladých dospělých“). Po teoretickém úvodu a kontextové analýze jejího historického vývoje předkládá rozbor migračních vztahů mezi východní a západní částí republiky na hierarchicky různých administrativních úrovních a rámcové dopady vnitřní emigrace na populaci zkoumaného území. Rovněž z hlediska významnosti analyzuje korelaci a závislost vnitřní migrace na push/pull faktorech popsaných pomocí ukazatelů trhu práce a bytové výstavby. V závěru uvádí případovou studii vnitřní migrace města Uherské Hradiště včetně emigračního potenciálu mladých dospělých a porovnává ho s výsledky analýzy migrace zkoumané oblasti.

Abstract:

Internal migration as an important comprehensive indicator simultaneously reflects dynamic social and economic changes as well as their long-term development trends. From the early 1990's, when the Czech Republic was often referred to in literature as a country with low spatial mobility and attractive medium-sized cities, in which migration movements close to the level of districts, and one moves on average once in a lifetime, there have been some fluctuations and changes over the past 25 years. Internal migration is also, as foreign authors point out on the examples of the developed countries of Western Europe, often a more important contributor to the change in the regional population than the natural increase, mainly due to the high mobility of the young adults. The eastern part of the Czech Republic, for the purposes of work defined by the territories of the three cohesion regions (NUTS 2) – South-East, Central Moravia and Moravia-Silesia, approximately corresponding to the territory of Moravia and Silesia, is a slightly different territory in terms of migration schemes compared to the rest of the Czech Republic, in which migration movements are generally smaller. The whole, internally significantly inhomogeneous, area of the eastern part of the Czech Republic is also influenced by general migratory trends, and in addition to the internal push and pull factors, also by strong external, especially socio-economic, pull factors of the capital city of Prague and its hinterland. The presented thesis examines the changes of internal migration in the eastern part of the Czech Republic in the period 1991-2015 in comparison with the nationwide development in order to identify and, on the basis of a descriptive and spatial analysis, interpret significant trends in internal migration, especially among the 20-34 age group ("young adults"). After a theoretical introduction and a contextual analysis of its historical development, it presents an analysis of the migratory relations between the eastern and western parts of the Czech Republic at hierarchically different administrative levels and the overall effects of the internal emigration on the population of the relevant territory. It also analyses, in terms of significance, the correlation and dependence of internal migration on the push/pull factors described by labour market and housing indicators. It also presents a case study of the internal migration of the city of Uherské Hradiště, including the emigration potential of young adults, and compares it with the results of the migration analysis of the eastern part of the Czech Republic.
