The rise and fall of Marrism

Abstract:

Tématem magisterské diplomové práce je obecně popsat trendy v lingvistice 19. a 20. století v Evropě a v Rusku, a poté se zaměřit konkrétně na „nové učení o jazyce“ od jednoho sovětského akademika N. J. Marra. Práce se dělí do čtyř větších kapitol. První dvě kapitoly analýzují aktualiní stav v jazykovědě v Evropě i v Rusku, vznik strukturalismu a různé lingvistické školy toho období. Poslední dvě kapitoly popisují Marra jako učence a osobnost, jeho teorii a hlavní témata, marrismus jako marxismus, pád jeho „učení“ a působení marrismu v Československu.

Abstract:

Given master's thesis describes general trends in linguistics of the 19th and 20th century in Europe and Russia, and then focuses specifically on the "new science of language" from one Soviet academic, N. J. Marr. The paper is thus divided into four parts. The first two parts analyze the current situation in linguistics in Europe and Russia, the formation of structuralism and the various linguistic schools of the period. The last two parts describe Marr as a scholar and personality, his theory and main topics, Marrism as Marxism, the fall of his "new science" and the effects of Marrism in Czechoslovakia.
