Solid-state synthesis of tridymite in laboratory and industrial firing conditions

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá studiem struktur nízkoteplotního tridymitu a pů-sobením mineralizátorů, jejich obsahu a podmínek výpalu na jeho vznik. V teoretické části jsou shrnuta publikovaná strukturní data tridymitu s aspektem na identifikaci nízkoteplotních polytypů obsažených v žáromateriálu dinasu a jsou zde zhodnoceny dosavadní poznatky týkající se podmínek vzniku tridymitu. Praktická část je zaměřena na experimenty s návazností na bakalář-skou práci autora (Pernica, 2017), s cílem ovlivnit tvorbu tridymitu pomocí tzv. mineralizátorů dvou různých režimů výpalu. Jako základní surovina pro syntézy byl použit silicit ze slovinské lokality Mirna (>99% SiO2), mikrosilika Fuller a křemenné sklo, se kterými byly kombinovány příměsi obsahující Fe3+, Ca2+, Na+ a K+ . Pomocí práškové rtg - difrakce byla provedena kompletní kvantitativní fázová analýza syntetizovaných vzorků včetně stanovení obsahu amorfní fáze. U každého vzorku byla provedena analýza zaměřená zejména na identifikaci a kvantifikaci polytypů tridymitu F1 a C1, vypočtení jejich mříž-kových parametrů a vzájemné srovnání krystalinity. Hlavním výsledkem di-plomové práce je určení mineralizátoru s nejvýznamnějším účinkem na vznik tridymitu. Bylo zjištěno, že nejvýraznější vliv má kombinace mineralizátorů Ca(OH)2 a Fe2O3, které se běžné používají v praxi.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis is focused on the study of low-temperature tridymite structures of and the effect of mineralizing agents, their content and firing conditions on their formation. The theoretical part summarizes the published data on tridymite structure with an aspect to the identification of the low-temperature polytypes occuring in the silica refractory bricks and the state of the art knowledge regarding the conditions of tridymite formation. The practi-cal part of the thesis deals with experiments related to the bachelor's thesis of the author (Pernica, 2017), in order to influence the formation of tridymite using the so-called mineralizing agents and two different firing regimes. Chert from the Slovenian locality Mirna (> 99% SiO2), silica fume and quartz glass were used as the basic raw materials for the syntheses, with which admixtures containing Fe3+, Ca2+, Na+ and K+. Using powder X-ray diffraction, a complete quantitative phase analysis was performed, including the determination of the amorphous phase content. Tridymite F1 and C1 polytypes determined and quantified in each sample. Further, tridymite and crostobalite their lattice parameters crystallite size were calculated. The main result of the analyzes was the determination of the mineralizing agent with the most significant effect on the formation of tridymite. The most significant mineralizing effect was observed for the combination of Ca(OH)2 and Fe2O3, which are common-ly used in the refractory production.
