The Czech Republic and its role in the EU Common Foreign and Security policy: case study of the initiation and development of the Eastern Partnership

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá zahraničněpolitickou rolí České republiky při iniciaci a vzniku programu Východní partnerství v období let 2007 až 2009. Práce se zaměřuje rovněž na faktory, které tuto roli formovaly a ovlivnily. Teoreticky je práce ukotvena v rámci sociálního konstruktivismu a užívá dva ústřední koncepty teorie rolí: národní roli a očekávanou roli. Koncept národní role je užit k analýze role České republiky v programu z pohledu aktérů zahraniční politiky a rovněž faktorů, které jí formovaly. Oproti tomu koncept očekávané role se zaměřuje na očekávání, která byla na ČR coby předsednickou zemi v souvislosti s Východním partnerstvím kladena ze strany Evropské unie. Data byla získána prostřednictvím polo-strukturovaných rozhovorů a dále analýzou primárních dokumentů a studia sekundární literatury.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis focuses on foreign policy role of the Czech Republic during initiation and formation of the Eastern Partnership (EaP) program within a period of 2007 and 2009. The thesis further investigates factors that constituted and influenced the role. Theoretical framework is grounded in social constructivism and employs two core concepts of a role theory: national role and expected role. The concept of national role is used to analyze the CR’s role in the EaP from the foreign policy actors’ view as well as factors that formed the role. The concept of expected role then focuses on analysis of expectations about the CR’s role from the EU’s point of view. Data has been acquired by semi-structured interviews as well as by primary documents analysis and literature review.
