Oscar Peterson and Count Basie: a fruitful friendship despite different musical languages
Abstract:
V mé bakalářské práci představím dva jazzové velikány, a to Oscara Petersona a Counta Basieho. Zmíním jejich dlouholeté přátelství, které vedlo k několika projektům a dvěma studiovým nahrávkám. Dále budu porovnávat jejich odlišné jazzové improvizační jazyky na příkladu vybraných skladeb, a to z jednoho z jejich společných alb Satch and Josh.
Abstract:
In my bachelor's thesis, I will introduce two jazz giants, Oscar Peterson and Count Basie, highlighting their long-standing friendship that led to several projects and two studio recordings. I will also compare their different jazz improvisational languages using examples from selected pieces, specifically from one of their collaborative albums, "Satch and Josh".
