Characteristics of Neoplasticism in Dutch and Czech Architecture with Examples of Schröder House and Café Era

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce si klade za cíl dokázat vliv holandského hnutí De Stijl na českou architekturu. Hlavní stavbou, na které byly demonstrovány všechny zásady De Stijl, se stal dům Schröder, který v Utrechtu navrhl architekt Thomas Gerrit Rietveld. Základní otázkou této práce je, zda se neoplasticismus, jakožto okrajový architektonický styl, projevil i mimo Holandsko, zemi svého původu. Nejvíce prostoru je věnováno budově brněnské kavárny Era od Josefa Kranze. Práce okrajově zkoumá tvorbu malíře Pieta Mondriana, který měl utváření neoplasticismu zásadní vliv.

Abstract:

This thesis aims to demonstrate the influence of the Dutch De Stijl movement on Czech architecture. The main building which demonstrated all the principles of De Stijl was Schröder house designed by architect Thomas Gerrit Rietveldin in Utrecht. The basic question is whether neoplasticismus as a marginal architectural style expressed outside of the Netherlands, the country of origin. Most space is devoted to building of café Era which was designed by Josef Kranz in Brno. This thesis also examines works of painter Piet Mondrian who had a major impact on formation of neoplasticism.
