Comparison of the production of above-ground biomass and height of sward of turf and forage type of grass cultivars

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá rozdíly mezi trávníkovými a pícními odrůdami trav. V literárním přehledu jsou nejprve vymezeny pojmy týkající se této problematiky a následně práce přibližuje podstatné informace z biologie a morfologie trav. Dále popisuje trávníkové a pícní odrůdy včetně cílů jejich šlechtění. V praktické části se nachází popis a vyhodnocení založeného pokusu, ve kterém byly použity odrůdy jílku vytrvalého, kostřavy rákosovité a kostřavy červené. Hodnocení pokusu proběhlo ve dvou termínech a sledovány byly tyto parametry: zapojení porostu, zaplevelení, výška porostu, produkce nadzemní biomasy a počet odnoží. Statisticky významné rozdíly (p < 0,05) mezi trávníkovými a pícními odrůdami byly prokázány u výšky porostu a počtu odnoží na jednotce plochy. Výška porostu před sečí byla u trávníkových odrůd v průměru 18 cm, u pícních odrůd 22,8 cm. Průměrná výška porostu kostřavy červené byla 18,1 cm, u jílku vytrvalého 21,1 cm a u kostřavy rákosovité 21,7 cm. Trávníkové odrůdy měly v souhrnu o 53,8 % odnoží více než odrůdy pícní. Průměrný počet odnoží u kostřavy rákosovité byl 1,34 odnože/cm2, u jílku vytrvalého 1,58 odnože/cm2 a u kostřavy červené 2,06 odnože/cm2.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with differences between turf and forage type of grass cultivars. In the literature review, there are firstly circumscribed the concepts which deal with this problematic. Then the thesis describes closely the substantial information in the field of biology and morphology of grasses. In the next part, turf and forage type of cultivars and the breeding objectives are described. In the practical part, there is description and evaluation of the experiment in which the cultivars of perennial ryegrass, tall and red fescue were tested. The evaluation took place in two terms and following parameters were recorded: grass vegetation cover, weed infestation, height of sward, production of above-ground biomass and tillers density. The statistically significant differences (p < 0.05) between turf and forage type cultivars were proved in the height of sward and tillers density. The height of vegetation before cut was in average 18.0 cm for turf-type cultivars and 22.8 cm for forage-type cultivars. The average height of red fescue was 18.1 cm, for the perennial ryegrass it was 21.1 cm and the height for the tall fescue was 21.7 cm. The turf-type cultivars had by 53.8 % more tillers than forage-type cultivars. The average number of tillers for the tall fescue was 1.34 tiller/cm2, for the perennial ryegrass it was 1.58 tiller/cm2 and the number for red fescue was 2.06 tiller/cm2.
