Tracing Former Borders: The Hlučín Region

Abstract:

Hlučínsko prodělalo složitý historický vývoj. O toto území společně s ostatní částí Opavska přišla Marie Terezie v první slezské válce v letech 1740 až 1742. Území Hlučínska pak bylo součástí Pruska až do roku 1920, kdy bylo připojeno k Československu. Cílem práce je zjistit, jak se bývalá rakousko-pruská hranice v oblasti Hlučínska projevuje v současné topografii, v silniční a cestní síti, umístění budov, místních názvech apod., a to za pomoci kritické aplikace konceptu fantomové hranice. Bakalářská práce je založena jak na terénním výzkumu, tak na srovnávání mapových podkladů z doby existence politické hranice a z doby současné. Součástí práce jsou také mapové a obrazové výstupy a historicko-geografické uvedení do problematiky.

Abstract:

The Hlučín region has undergone a complex historical development. Maria Theresa lost this area with the rest of the Opava region in the First Silesian War in the years 1740 to 1742. The territory of the Hlučín region was then part of Prussia until 1920, when it was annexed to Czechoslovakia. The aim of the thesis is to find out how the former Austro-Prussian border in the Hlučín region is reflected in the current topography, road and road network, location of buildings, local names, etc., with the help of a critical application of the phantom border concept. The bachelor's thesis is based on both field research and a comparison of map data from the time of the existence of the political border and the present. The work also includes map and image outputs and historical-geographical introduction to the issue.
