The renaissance wall-painting and sgraffito in territories of Spiš and Šariš

Abstract:

Práca pojednáva o renesančných nástenných maľovaných a sgrafitových výzdobách, sústredených v interiéroch a na fasádach spišských a šarišských profánnych a sakrálnych stavieb najrozmanitejšieho druhu. Okrem figurálnych malieb a sgrafít sa pokúša zmapovať aj jednoduchšie, no vizuálne pútavé rastlinno-ornamentálne dekorácie či iluzívne geometrické a architektonické prvky. Nevynecháva ani zvlášť pozoruhodnú skupinu maľovaných nápisov. Ide o objekty v mestách a mestečkách (Bardejov, Kežmarok, Levoča, Prešov, Košice, Sabinov, Veľký Šariš, Poprad, Vrbov, Veľká Lesná) na vidieku (Betlanovce, Strážky, Spišský Hrhov, Šarišské Dravce, Pečovská Nová Ves, Brezovica, Ploské, Osikov, Toporec, Svinia, Fričovce) a niektoré boli sídlom hradného panstva (Nedeca) či cirkevnej osady (Spišská Kapitula). Práca je vôbec prvou súhrnnou štúdiou na danú tému. Dôkladne sa snaží analyzovať jednotlivé zachované a lepšie zdokumentované nezachované výzdoby (v katalógu) a ich lokálny, historický, kultúrny a spoločenský kontext (v kapitolách). Práca je rozdelená do ôsmych častí. Po úvode nasleduje metodika bádania a spracovania. Treťou kapitolou je doterajší stav bádania o téme a štvrtá kapitola v krátkosti približuje dejiny Spiša a Šariša v celouhorských súvislostiach. Posledné tri kapitoly sú autorské. V poradí piata kapitola nesie názov Regionálne predpoklady pre uplatnenie a zakorenenie renesančného výtvarného názoru a čitateľa vťahuje do prostredia, ktoré umožnilo prienik renesančného názoru. Šiesta kapitola pod názvom Spišské a šarišské nástenné maľby z prvej polovice 16. storočia: poznámky k neskorogotickému a ranorenesančnému maliarstvu rozoberá iba malú skupinu maľovaných výzdob, zahrnutých v katalógu. Zároveň ich približuje v kontexte ostatných, odbornej verejnosti známych a pomerne dobre spracovaných diel. Okrem toho približuje maliarske osobnosti, ktoré sa podarilo v literatúre a prameňoch dohľadať. Siedma kapitola s názvom Spišské a Šarišské nástenné maľby a sgrafitá z druhej polovice 16. storočia a z prvej polovice 17. storočia pokračuje v línii predchádzajúcej, avšak už je rozdelená do dvoch častí. V prvej demonštruje uplatnenie lokálneho renesančného štýlu "spišsko-šarišskej renesancie", v rámci ktorého sledujeme aj rozsiahle používanie sgrafitových výzdob. Druhá časť je rozdelená do menších celkov, ktoré už konkrétne formou voľne písaného textu pojednávajú o objednávateľoch, predlohách, tvorcoch a samotných dielach z uvedeného obdobia. V ôsmej kapitole sa stretneme so sekundárne zachovanými výzdobami, pričom veľkú skupinu z nich vôbec nepoznáme a vlastne ani nevieme ako vyzerali. Najväčšou časťou práce je Katalóg, ktorý je štruktúrovaný podľa datovania od najstaršej po najmladšiu rozoberanú výzdobu. Každá z nich je osobitne konfrontovaná so stavebnou históriou objektu, najmä s tou poslednou úpravou, ktorá predchádzala samotnému zdobeniu. Heslár sa snaží o samostatnú analýzu konkrétneho sgrafita a nástennej maľby, jej interpretáciu a program so zreteľom na osobnosť objednávateľa. Prácu ukončujú tradičné prílohy ako zoznam prameňov, literatúry, skratiek a ilustrácie.

Abstract:

The dissertation is aimed at renaissance murals and graffito decoration, concentrated in the interiors and facades of Spiš and Šariš profane and sacral buildings of various kinds. It is an attempt to map figural paintings and graffito, but also simpler, but visually appealing botanical decorations and illusive geometric and architectonical elements. Pained writings are also included. It maps buildings in bigger towns (Bardejov, Kežmarok, Levoča, Prešov, Košice, Sabinov, Veľký Šariš, Poprad, Vrbov, Veľká Lesná), as well as smaller towns and villages (Betlanovce, Strážky, Spišský Hrhov, Šarišské Dravce, Pečovská Nová Ves, Brezovica, Ploské, Osikov, Toporec, Svinia, Fričovce), some were a castle manor seat (Nedeca) or church settlement (Spišská Kapitula). This work is the very first summary study of the topic. It is thoroughly analyzing individual preserved, as well documented and not preserved decorations (in the catalogue) and their local, historical, cultural and social context (in chapters). The work is divided into eight parts. After an introduction, there is a chapter of methodics of research and processing. The third chapter describes actual status of research about the topic and the fourth chapter shortly sums history of Spiš and Šariš in the context of whole Hungary. The last three chapters are original. The fifth chapter Regional preconditions to apply renaissance visual opinion pulls the reader to the environment that allowed the renaissance opinion to penetrate. The sixth chapter Špiš and Šariš murals from the first half of 16th century: comments to the late gothic and early renaissance painting analyzes only small group of painted decorations that are included in the catalogue. At the same time it focuses them in the context of the other works, well known to scientific community, and well analyzed as well. Also, it closes up on persons of painters, that it was possible to search in literature and sources. The seventh chapter Špiš and Šariš murals and graffiti from the second half of 16th and first half of 17th century continues in the previous course. However it is divided into two parts. In the first, it demonstrates application of local renaissance style of "Spiš and Šariš renaissance", where we observe extensive use of graffito decorations. The second is divided into smaller parts that are describing in text the customers, the models, the creators and the very works from the period. In the chapter eight, we follow secondary preserved decorations, while we do not know a big part of them or how they looked like. The largest part of the work is the catalogue, which is structured according to date from the oldes to the youngest decoration. Every one of them is separately confronted with the history of the building, especially with the latest building modifications that preceded the very decoration. Catalogue separately analyzes specific graffito and mural, its interpretation and program with the respect to personality of the customer. The work is finished with traditional attachments as list of sources, literature, abbreviations and illustrations.
