A model of integrated internal communication in an organization

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se věnuje široké problematice interní komunikace. Ta hraje klíčovou roli při rozhodování o vnitřních vztazích organizace a přispívá ke spokojenosti zaměstnanců. Je také úzce provázána s public relations a dalšími komunikačními aktivitami, které jsou předpokladem pro úspěšné budování dobrého jména celé organizace. Teoretický rámec práce nabízí ucelený výklad problematiky s podrobným popisem jednotlivých aspektů integrované interní komunikace, jejichž praktické využití je prokázáno výsledky renomovaných mezinárodních výzkumů. Teorie zahrnuje cíle, principy, strategii, kanály, plánování, měření a mnohé další oblasti, které představují základní pilíře strategické interní komunikace. Práce v rámci komunikačních kanálů kriticky zhodnocuje roli manažerů v interní komunikaci a míru, kterou tuto roli naplňují. V rámci měření se detailněji věnuje komunikačnímu auditu. Poznatky jsou poté aplikovány v praxi v rozsáhlém šetření interní komunikace ve smyšlené organizaci ABC, s cílem nastavit funkční strategii interní komunikace.

Abstract:

This master thesis analyzes the internal communications function which plays a key role in shaping organizations’ internal relations as well as in contributing to the overall employee satisfaction. The phenomenon of internal communications is also closely intertwined with public relations and various other communications activities which together form the prerequisite for building and sustaining an organization’s good reputation. The theoretical framework offers a comprehensive overview of this issue with a detailed description of individual aspects of integrated internal communications. The practical use of these aspects is then demonstrated through the results of renowned international research. The theory introduces objectives, principles, strategy, channels, planning, measurement and other areas which are fundamental to strategic internal communications. Looking at the channels more closely, the author critically evaluates the role managers play in the overall communication process and the extent to which they successfully fulfill their responsibilities. In defining research methods, characteristics of a communication audit are emphasized. The theoretical knowledge is then put into practice via a fictional organization ABC. The aim of this exercise is to set up a functional internal communications strategy.
