Population structures in the village of Slavkov in the Opava region at the end of the 19th century

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá skladbou domácností a populačními strukturami Slavkova u Opavy, se zaměřením na biologické a kulturní znaky. V první části práce je přiblížena lokalita, stav dosavadního bádání a prameny. Druhá část se zabývá analýzou populace. Tato analýza vychází ze studia sčítání lidu z let 1890 a 1900, které byly po excerpci statisticky zpracovávány s pomocí počítače nebo čárkovací metodou. Výsledky výzkumu zdejší populace byly v souladu s předpoklady pro vesnickou společnost, nicméně prokázaly i několik zajímavých odlišností. Analýza sňatečnosti prokázala vysoký počet svobodných osob, zatímco analýza gramotnosti ukázala velice vysoký podíl gramotných v populaci Slavkova. Problematika nabízí další možnosti zkoumání, zejména na základě ekonomických znaků či s použitím jiných pramenů.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the structure of population and households in Slavkov near Opava, focusing on biological and cultural markers. The first part of the thesis characterizes the area, existing research, and historical sources. The second part deals with the analysis of the population. This analysis is based on two population censuses from the years 1890 and 1900, which were statistically processed using a computer or the hatching method after excerption. The results of the research on the local population were in accordance with the expectations for a typical rural population, however, there were also several interesting differences. The analysis of marital status showed a high number of single people, while the literacy analysis demonstrated a great proportion of literate people in the population of Slavkov. This topic offers further possibilities of inquiry, especially based on the economic features of the population as well as on the use of different historical sources.
