Interpretive analysis of the piano cycle Preludes op. 9 by Ilja Hurník

Abstract:

Diplomová práce vystihuje klavírní cyklus Preludia op. 9 Ilji Hurníka a zahrnuje stručný životopis skladatele, jehož hlavní část je zaměřena na období vzniku Preludií, tedy autorovo mládí a dobu studií. Práce je především interpretačně-analytická a částečně zasahuje také do historiografického zaměření. V první části je nastíněna osobnost Ilji Hurníka krátkým životopisem a o něco obsáhleji je zachycen jeho umělecký vývoj v rané fázi života. Zde také najdeme zmínku o inspiračních zdrojích, pro Hurníkův skladatelský styl typických. Druhý oddíl prezentuje stěžejní zaměření práce a obsahuje interpretační analýzu klavírního cyklu Preludia op. 9. V závěru se pak nachází shrnutí interpretačních specifik jednotlivých skladeb a subjektivní postřehy pisatelky plynoucí z vlastní interpretační zkušenosti. Autorka pořídila v letošním roce (2023) nahrávku tohoto klavírního cyklu v Českém rozhlase Ostrava, která je spolu s plným notovým textem přílohou této diplomové práce.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis describes the piano cycle Preludes op. 9 by Ilja Hurník and includes a brief biography of the composer, the main part of which is focused on the period of creation of the Preludes, the author's youth and study period. The work is primarily interpretive-analytical and partly also involves a historiographic focus. In the first part, Ilya Hurník's personality is outlined with a short biography, and his artistic development in the early phase of his life is captured in a slightly more comprehensive way. Here we also find a mention of sources of inspiration typical for Hurník's compositional style. The second section presents the core focus of the work and contains an interpretive analysis of the piano cycle Preludes op. 9. In the conclusion, there is a summary of the interpretation specifics of individual compositions and the writer's subjective observations resulting from her own interpretation experience. This year (2023), the author made a recording of this piano cycle at the Czech Radio Ostrava, which, together with the full sheet music, is an appendix to this diploma thesis.
