Nemecko ako jeden z ekonomicky najsilnejších štátov Hospodárskej a menovej únie, má zásadný vplyv na jej fungovanie. Ten sa prejavil už pri tvorbe, kedy Bundesbanka bola vzorom pre formovanie Európskej centrálnej banky.
