Ritual tattoo among mobile societies in Indonesia

Abstract:

In this thesis we deal with a description and comparative analyses of tattoos between selected Indonesian tribes and tribes of Oceania. Being based on Czech and foreign literature and accesible ethnological anthologies we try study motifs and symbolism behind tattoos in the area as well as mapping similarities and differences between them. The thesis also provides a general description of hunters-gatherers societies , the enviroment of Indonesia and other types of mutilations which are connected to the indigenous people somehow. Due to the amount of accessible literature, high absence of targeted groups in present and relatively unclear interpretation of hunters-gatherers societies we target on tribes with the history of this nomadic way of life (rarely enduring till present). The final result of the thesis is comparative analysis showing certain similarities in motifs and symbolism of tattoos, without the connection to the nomadic or settled lifestyle in the most of the cases.

Abstract:

V této bakalářské práci se věnujeme popisu a komparační analýze tetování u vybraných kmenů Indonésie mezi sebou a kmeny Oceánie. Na základě práce s českou a zahraniční odbornou literaturou a dostupnými etnologickými sbírkami se snažíme nastudovat motivy a symboliku tetování v uvedené oblasti a následné zmapování podobností a odlišností mezi nimi. Práce se také zabývá obecným popisem lovecko-sběračských společností , prostředím Indonésie a dalšími typy mutilací, které jsou s původními obyvateli spjaté. Vzhledem k množství dostupné literatury, značnou absenci zájmových skupin v současnosti v dané oblasti a relativne nejasné interpretace definice lovecko-sběračských společností se práce zaměřuje na původní obyvatelstvo, u kterého byl nomádský způsob života zaznamenán v minulosti (vzácne přetrvává dodnes). Výsledným výstupem práce je komparační analýza, která prokazuje určité podobnosti v motivech a symbolice tetování, ve většině případů bez vztahu k způsobu života.
