Structural Analysis and Optimization of Large Volume Tanks

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá strukturální analýzou dvou numerických modelů velkoobjemových nádrží a jejich optimalizací vzhledem k provozní bezpečnosti. Teoretická část je věnována problematice skladování dešťové vody, výrobou daných výrobků a mechanickým vlastnostem polymerů se zaměřením na tvarovou stabilitu tenkostěnných těles. V závěru této části je uveden princip FEM analýz a jejich role v současné výrobě. Praktická část pojednává o závislostech mezi koeficientem bezpečnosti a tloušťkou stěny obou nádrží s následným vyhodnocením optimálních parametrů. Předmětem kontroly byla zejména odolnost výrobků vůči ztrátě stability z důvodu tenkostěnné konstrukce a nízké tuhosti použitého materiálu.

Abstract:

This Master Thesis deals with the structural analysis of two numerical models for large-volume underground tanks and their subsequent optimization. The theoretical part discusses the following issues: rainwater harvesting, manufacturing of underground plastic vessels and mechanical properties of polymers with a focus on linear buckling of thin-walled products. This part concludes with a discussion about the principles of finite element analysis and their role in current manufacturing. The practical part describes the dependencies between the safety factor and the wall thickness of the analysed tanks. Based on the results, optimization was subsequently performed. The safety check was mainly focused on the linear buckling coefficient, due to the thin-walled construction and low material stiffness.
