The term "public space" in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

V bakalářské práci se zabývám problematikou konceptu veřejného prostoru. Veřejný prostor má mnoho významů, které bývají často špatně použity. Cílem práce je na základě analýzy české odborné literatury identifikovat různé způsoby použití veřejného prostoru, tyto způsoby kategorizovat a jednotlivé kategorie použití smysluplně interpretovat. V souvislosti s kategorizací použití veřejného prostoru jsem zjišťoval, jaké obory s konceptem veřejného prostoru pracují nejčastěji a zdali ho používají v materiální či nemateriální podobě. Analyzovaná literatura pochází ze dvou zdrojů, Moravské zemské knihovny a knihovny Fakulty sociálních studií. Práce je dělena na dvě části, teoretickou a praktickou. V teoretické části se zabývám konceptem veřejného prostoru v zahraničí. Analyzuji zde způsoby používání veřejného prostoru a způsoby kategorizací veřejného prostoru mimo Českou republiku. Kategorizace identifikované v teoretické části mi slouží jako inspirace pro vytvoření kategorizace mé vlastní. V druhé části, praktické, definuji koncepty veřejný prostor, veřejné prostranství, veřejná sféra a ukazuji rozdíly mezi nimi. V závěru druhé části vytvářím kategorizaci veřejného prostoru, reflektuji nedostatky jednotlivých použití a dívám se na koncept veřejného prostoru optikou sociologie vědění. Výsledky práce jsou užitečné pro všechny vědce pracující v oblasti veřejného prostoru. Mohou posloužit jako základní příručka pro orientaci v této problematice.

Abstract:

In the thesis I deal with the concept of public space. Public space has many meanings, which are often wrongly used. The aim of the work is to identify various uses of public space in the Czech Republic, categorization of the different uses, and meaningful interpretation of the identified categories and uses. In relation to the categorization of the use of public space, I found out which courses work with the concept of public space and whether they use it in tangible or intangible form. This research is based on the analysis of the Czech professional literature. The analysed literature comes from two sources, the Moravian Library and the library of the Faculty of Social Studies. The work is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with the concept of public space abroad. I analyse the ways of usage of public space and the ways of categorizing public space outside the Czech Republic. Categorizations identified in the theoretical part work as my inspiration in creation of my own categorization. In the second part, the practical one, I define the concepts of public space, public area (space), public sphere and show differences between them. In the end of the second part I create categorization of public space. I reflect weaknesses of each application and look at the concept of public space through the lens of the sociology of knowledge. Results of the work are useful for all scientists who work on the field of public space. They can serve as a basic guide for orientation in this area.
