Strategies for supporting adaptation of Roma children in kindergarten

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce s názvem "Strategie pro podporu adaptace dětí romského etnika v mateřské škole" má teoreticko-empirický charakter. Jejím primárním cílem je odkrýt strategie pro podporu adaptace dětí romského etnika využívané v mateřských školách. V teoretické části jsou nejprve sumarizovány obecné poznatky týkající se adaptačního procesu s ohledem na předškolní vzdělávání. V návaznosti na to jsou dále popsány takové aspekty romské kultury a výchovy, jež mohou podstatným způsobem ovlivnit jeho průběh. Navazující empirická část poté prezentuje výsledky kvalitativně orientovaného výzkumu. Získaná data byla sesbírána prostřednictvím polostrukturovaného interview s devíti učitelkami mateřských škol a následně zpracována pomocí otevřeného kódování do příslušných kategorií. Výsledky výzkumu odhalují, že učitelky v praxi využívají celou řadu způsobů, jimiž se snaží adaptaci romských dětí usnadnit, nicméně jejich jednání vychází převážně z vlastní intuice.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis entitled "Strategies for supporting adaptation of Roma children in kindergarten" has a theoretical-empirical character. Its primary aim is to reveal strategies currently used to support the adaptation of children of Roma ethnicity in kindergartens. The theoretical part first summarizes knowledge in general about the adaptation process in pre-school education. This is followed by a description of aspects of Roma culture and education that can significantly influence the progress of adaptation. The subsequent empirical part presents the results of the qualitative research. The data was collected during semi-structured interviews conducted with nine kindergarten teachers and then processed into the relevant categories using open coding. The results of the research show that in practice teachers use a variety of methods to facilitate the adaptation of Roma children, but their actions are based solely on their own intuition.
