Ethical dilemmas faced by counsellors at Linka bezoečí, child´s helpline

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je analyzovat, jaká etická dilemata mají pracovníci telefonické krizové linky pro děti, Linky bezpečí. Tato práce se nejprve zabývá teoretickým zakotvením etických dilemat v sociální práci, vysvětluje, jak dilemata vznikají, podává pojetí dilemat podle Libora Musila a také předkládá, jak je možné s nimi naložit. Nezbytnou součástí práce je charakteristika prostředí pracoviště Linky bezpečí, nastavení jeho standardů, pravidel a etického kodexu, tedy všeho, co má pomáhat pracovníkům s řešením složitých dilemat. Dále prostřednictvím kvalitativního výzkumu mapuje, jaké hodnoty považují krizoví pracovníci Linky bezpečí za podstatné, před jakými konkrétními dilematy obvykle stojí, jakým způsobem je s těmito dilematy dále nakládáno a jako jim s dilematy pomáhá etický kodex organizace. Výsledky šetření ukázaly, že participanti vnímají jako podstatné hodnoty respektu a transparentnosti vůči klientovi. Nejobtížnějšími dilematy jsou pro ně hovory, ve kterých vnímají, že jsou nuceni překračovat vlastní hranice anebo takové hovory, v nichž předávají klientovi kontakty na instituce, kterým ne úplně důvěřují. Etický kodex participanti znají, ale nepovažují jej při řešení dilemat za podstatný. Spíše jim v dilematech pomáhá sdílení s kolegy nebo konzultace s intervizory.

Abstract:

The topic of this bachelor thesis is to find out what ethical dilemmas the workers of the telephone crisis line for children, the organization Linka bezpečí, have. This thesis first examines the theoretical underpinning of ethical dilemmas in social work, explains how dilemmas arise, gives a conception of dilemmas according to Libor Musil and also presents how they can be dealt with. An essential part of the work is the characterization of the environment of Linka bezpečí workplace, setting its standards, rules and code of ethics, i.e. everything that is supposed to help workers with solving complex dilemmas. Furthermore, through qualitative research it maps what values the crisis workers of Linka bezpečí consider essential, what specific dilemmas they usually face, how these dilemmas are further handled and how the organization's code of ethics helps to do so. The results of the survey showed that the participants perceive respect and transparency towards the client as essential values. The most difficult dilemmas for them are calls in which they perceive that they are forced to cross their own boundaries or calls in which they give the client contacts to institutions they do not fully trust. They know the code of ethics but they don´t consider it essential in resolving dilemmas. Rather, sharing with colleagues or consulting with interviewers helps them in dilemmas.
