Construction of the female characters in Czech translations of novels by Haruki Murakami

Abstract:

CHVÁTALOVÁ, K. Výstavba ženských hrdinek v českých překladech románů Haruki Murakamiho. [Diplomová práce.] Ústí nad Labem 2012 - Univerzita Jana Evangelisty Purkyně, Pedagogická fakulta, katedra bohemistiky, 78 s. Práce je zaměřena na japonského autora Haruki Murakamiho. Pojednává o jeho životě a tvorbě. Ústřední část je věnována rozboru ženských hrdinek v českých překladech jeho děl. K analýze byly vybrány postavy mající v daných dílech významnou roli. Jedná se o hrdinky románů Norské dřevo (1987), Na jih od hranic, na západ od slunce (1992), Sputnik, má láska (1999) a Kafka na pobřeží (2003). Práce obsahuje také část kompilační, kde zpracovává poznatky teorií pojednávajících o literární postavě, a zmiňuje dostupné typologie týkající se zkoumané problematiky. Výsledkem této části je terminologický fond, který je následně uplatněn v případových studiích jednotlivých děl. Cílem práce je vytvoření komplexního pohledu na postavení a charakteristiku ženské hrdinky ve fikčním světě Murakamiho románů, a to zobecněním dílčích poznatků, nalezením společných prvků či naopak prvků odlišných.

CHVÁTALOVÁ, K. Construction of the female characters in Czech translations of novels by Haruki Murakami. [Thesis.] Usti nad Labem 2012 - Jan Evangelista Purkyne University, Faculty of Education, Department of Czech and Slavistic Studies, 78 pages. The work is focused on the Japanese author Haruki Murakami. It discusses his life and work. The central part consists of the analysis of female heroines in Czech translation of his works. We analyse the heroines of following novels: Norwegian Wood (1987), South of the Border, West of the Sun (1992), Sputnik Sweetheart (1999) and Kafka on the Shore (2003). The work contains also the compilation part in which I treat findings dealing with the theory of literary character and mention the typology of the studied subjects as well. The result of this section is the terminological fund that is consequently applied on the case studies of individual works. The aim is to create a comprehensive view of the status and characteristics of female heroines in the fictional world of Murakami's novels by means of the generalization of partial knowledge and findings, and the finding both common and different elements.
