Analysis of digital currency Bitcoin

Abstract:

Řešená oblast této práce je virtuální měna Bitcoin, a to převážně transakce bitcoinů a jejich vlastnosti jako rychlost, bezpečnost či náklady na poplatky s nimi spojenými. Hlavní cíle této práce jsou tři, prvním je analýza možností nákupu bitcoinů v české republice. Druhým z nich je srovnání Bitcoin transakcí s běžnými platebními metodami jako jsou bankovní transakce, platba kartou či přes PayPal. Posledním cílem je analýza vývoje počtu obchodníků, které přijímají bitcoin jako jednu z platebních možností a zjištění trendu z těchto dat. Struktura práce je dělena do části teoretické a části praktické. V teoretické části jsou popsány základy kryptografie, které jsou nezbytné pro pochopení fungování Bitcoinu, a také to jakým způsobem Bitcoin funguje. Část praktická se zabývá splněním zadaných cílů, mimo to se také zaměřuje na porovnání Bitcoin klientů a vyvozuje závěry o tom, které z nich jsou vhodné pro běžné uživatele. Přínosem této práce je analýza možností nákupů bitcoinů v české republice, srovnání Bitcoin transakcí s transakcemi běžných platebních metod, jak z hlediska poplatků ale i z hlediska časového, a analýza trendu vývoje podniků přijímajících bitcoin.

Abstract:

Bachelor's thesis is focused on digital currency Bitcoin, mainly on Bitcoin transactions and their attributes like speed, fees and safety. Main goals of this thesis are three, analysis of bitcoin buying possibilities in Czech Republic, comparison of Bitcoin transactions with common payment methods like bank transfers, credit card payment or PayPal, and analysis of number of merchants accepting bitcoin in time and discovery of trend from these data. This thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. In theoretical part there are described basics of cryptography, which are necessary for understanding Bitcoin, and in depth description how Bitcoin works. Practical part is focused on fulfilment of described goals, besides that thesis is also addressing Bitcoin clients and comparison between most popular ones. Contribution of this bachelor's thesis is analysis of bitcoin buying possibilities in Czech Republic, comparing Bitcoin transactions with transactions of standard payment methods in terms of fees and time, and analysis of trend in number of merchants accepting bitcoin as one of the payment method.
