The Film Review focussing on the Director's Theme

Abstract:

Práce se teoreticky i prakticky věnuje žánru filmové recenze. Textová část se soustřeďuje na tři klíčové oblasti, jež výslednou podobu filmové recenze determinují. První oblastí je diskurz samotného média, v němž je recenze uveřejněna. Zde se soustřeďuji na možné podoby filmové recenze a na funkce filmové kritiky různých typů. Další sférou je oblast čtenářského publika. Všímám si zde recipročního vztahu, jenž mezi čtenářem recenze a jeho autorem vzniká. Anticipace čtenáře kritikem totiž do velké míry ovlivňuje samotnou jeho práci na textu, a naopak i recenze může ovlivnit čtenářovu recepci filmu. Poslední klíčovou oblastí je samotný text filmové recenze, kde konfrontuji konvencionalizované tvůrčí postupy s vlastním náhledem na různé typy, motivy i nejvýraznější úskalí filmové kritiky. V produktové části práce, kterou tvoří soubor devíti filmových recenzí, nabízím alternativu ke kanonizovanému stylu filmové recenze v médiích deníkového typu. Krom naplnění informativní funkce, která je pro tento typ filmové kritiky primární, přidávám motiv filmového režiséra – tedy funkci edukativní. Ve svých recenzích proto kladu důraz na zařazení hodnoceného filmu do širšího kontextu režisérovy tvorby.

Abstract:

This study is aimed at the film review, both from the theoretical and the practical point of view. The teoretical part developes three main spheres, which determinate the resultant shape of the review. The first sphere is discourse of the media, where the review should be published. In this chapter I am focused on possible types of film review and their functions. The next sphere, which I am interested, is the reader of the review and subsequently the possibly film audience. I pay attention to the reciprocal relationship, which develops between the review reader and the review writer. The anticipation of the reader influences the work of the writer – and vice versa the review influences the perception of the reviewed film. The last fundamental sphere is the text of the film review itself. In this chapter I am confronting conventionalized creative techniques to my own opinion of the types, motifs and difficulties of film criticism. The product part contains nine film reviews, that offer alternative to the canonised style of journal film reviewing. In addition to the informative function, that is primary to this type of criticism, I am extending the film review with the educative function, enlarging the stress on the director motive and the context of his work, in which the reviewed film occupies its place.
