Causes of financial crisis 2008-09 in a view of alternative theories

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na vysvětlení možných příčin finančních krizí z pohledu některých směrů, které lze považovat za alternativní vzhledem k hlavnímu proudu, především postkeynesovské ekonomie a behaviorálních financí. Jejím cílem je poskytnout odlišný teoretický rámec vzniku finančních krizí z pohledu teorií opouštějících předpoklady plné racionality a efektivních trhů spojené se standardní ekonomickou teorií, a to na příkladu vzniku globální finanční krize z let 2008-09. Historickou realitu Spojených států vedoucí až ke vzniku hypoteční bubliny na počátku tisíciletí analyzuje pohledem fenoménu financializace ekonomiky, dále se zabývá otázkami iracionality tržních subjektů a selhávání finančních trhů. Práce poskytuje alternativní schéma vzniku finančních krizí prizmatem vnitřní nestability moderního kapitalistického systému, která vyvěrá z rostoucího významu finančního sektoru v ekonomice, respektive sektorů FIRE (finance, insurance, real estate).

Abstract:

The diploma thesis focuses on explanation of possible causes of financial crises from the point of view of some schools which can be considered as an alternative to the mainstream, especially postkeynesian economics and behavioral finance. Its aim is to provide a different theoretical framework for the emergence of financial crises from the point of view of theories leaving assumptions of a full rationality and efficient markets associated with standard economic theory on the example of the emergence of the global financial crisis in 2008-09. It analyzes US historical reality leading up to the emergence of the mortgage bubble at the beginning of the millennium from the point of view of a phenomenon of financialization of the economy, it also deals with irrationality of market entities and failures of financial markets. The thesis provides an alternative scheme for the emergence of financial crises with the prism of an endogenous instability of the modern capitalist system which stems from the growing importance of the financial sector in the economy, FIRE sectors (finance, insurance, real estate) respectively.
