No place for Barbie

Abstract:

V diplomové práci No place for Barbie se snažím objasnit, z jakých důvodů jsem si vytvořila tento projekt, co bylo startérem mého konceptu, proč zrovna takhle a ne jinak a samozřejmě s tím vším související můj pohled na vizuální umění dnešní doby. V první kapitole uvádím, jak chápu dnešní umění já osobně, jaké elementy mě přitahují v samotné tvorbě, co je mým emočním motorem pro vznik ?uměleckého? díla. Zabývám se rovněž myšlenkou, že čerpáme z podnětů, které nás obklopují, že žijeme ve směsici všeho, všech kulturních vlivů, že už neexistuje jen jediný mýtus či jediná morálka, jak tomu bylo dříve, že dochází k tříštění kultur na tisíce malých kultůrek, že dnešní umělci zaznamenávají tuto směsici signálů, symbolů, kultur a médií. Zmiňuju zde osobnosti jako jsou Jean-Francois Lyotard, Frederic Jameson, Jean Baudrillard, Charles Jenckse a hnutí Cyberpunk a Cyborg. Další kapitola patří obřím technokapitalistickým korporacím aneb tomu, jak si korporace nepřejí, aby symboly, jimiž nás obklopily, někdo přetvářel či citoval jako umělecké artefakty, s čímž je úzce spjata moje dosavadní tvorba. Následující dvě kapitoly jsou věnované konceptuálnímu umělci Johnu Baldessarimu a panence Barbie, pomocí nichž vznikl můj projekt No place for Barbie. Komentuji zde výstavu Johna Baldessariho Pure Beauty, kterou jsem měla možnost shlédnout v Barcelóně v galerii MACBA, a která mě obohatila natolik, že jsem se rozhodla využít Baldessariho díla pro svou diplomovou práci. Kapitola, která je věnována panence Barbie, shrnuje informace o ní samotné a dále pak uvádím umělce, kteří již Barbie jako symbol popkultury již použili pro svá umělecká díla. V poslední kapitole popisuji svoji praktickou část diplomové práce, v níž rekonstruuji díla Johna Baldessariho, přičemž lidé, kteří jsou zobrazeni v dokumentačních fotografiích či videích nahrazuji panenkou Barbie. Popisuji zde svůj koncept díla, způsob realizace a prezentace.

Abstract:

In my diploma thesis No place for Barbie I tried to explain what were the reasons to make such project, what was the starting point of my concept, why it was made in that way and not in another one, and of course my perspective on the contemporary visual art connected with that all. The first chapter contains my personal understanding of contemporary art, what elements attract me in my work itself, what is my emotional driving force to create a work of "art". It also deals with the idea that we draw inspiration from the stimuli which surround us, that we live in a mixture of everything, of all cultural influences, that there is not the only one myth or moral as it used to be, that the cultures break into thousands of little cultures, that the contemporary artists note such mixture of signals, symbols, cultures and media. It mentions such personalities as Jean-Francois Lyotard, Frederic Jameson, Jean Baudrillard, Charles Jenckse and the movements Cyberpunk and Cyborg. The next chapter is aimed at the huge techno-capitalist corporations or at the fact that the corporations do not want anybody to convert their symbols around us or to quote them as artefacts which has been the topic closely connected with my work up to now. The following two chapters are dedicated to the conceptual artist John Baldessari and to the Barbie doll which helped me to create my project No place for Barbie. There are my comments on John Baldessari´s exhibition Pure Beauty which I had the possibility to visit in MACBA gallery in Barcelona enriching me so much that I decided to use Baldessari´s work as an inspiration for my diploma thesis. The chapter dedicated to the Barbie doll summarizes the information about the doll itself and also there is a list of artists who have already used Barbie as a symbol od popculture for their works of art. The last chapter describes the practical part of my diploma thesis where John Baldessari´s works are reconsturcted while the people depicted in the documentary pictures or videos are replaced by the Barbie doll. My concept of work, the method of realization and presentation are described there.
