Between the Worlds of Josef Kremláček: from Children's and Young Adult's Book Illustration to Fine Arts

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá dílem akademického malíře Josefa Kremláčka, jednoho z významných českých výtvarníků. Ten během svého života ilustroval na 80 knih pro děti a mládež, za které získal četná uznání doma i v zahraničí. Zároveň však byl jednou z výrazných osobností české surrealistické scény. Společně s dalšími výtvarníky a mysliteli, sdílející stejné ideje, založil dvě surrealistické skupiny. Tou první byla skupina Lacoste, druhou skupina Stir up. Práce se následně věnuje průniku mezi dvěma, na první pohled odlišnými, směry jeho umělecké činnosti, které tvoří prvky imaginace a technika dekalku.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the work of Josef Kremláček, an important Czech artist. During his lifetime, Josef Kremláček illustrated more than eighty books for children and young adults which brought him multiple awards for his art. At the same time, he was a significant member of the Czech surrealist art scene. Together with his fellow artists sharing the same ideas and beliefs, Kremláček established two surrealist artistic groups. The first one being Lacoste, the second one was called Stir up. The thesis explores the intersecting areas of the two seemingly separate directions of his artistic endeavours, constituted by the elements of imagination and the technique of decal.
