The Origin of Nursery Rhymes

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na vysvětlení historického pozadí vzniku dětských říkanek a jejich analýzu. Pracuje s říkankami, které vzniky v 16. století v Anglii během období Anglické reformace. Práce vyobrazuje historické události této doby, které vedly ke vzniku vybraných říkanek, jejichž původní význam je vysvětlen a které jsou jednotlivě analyzovány. Oblast říkanek, které jsou vybrány pro další zkoumání, souvisí s reformací církve v Anglii během vlády Tudorovců, konkrétně Jindřicha VIII., Marie I. Tudorovny a Alžběty I. Tyto říkanky nastiňují pohled obyčejných lidí na reformaci církve, období moru, vládu Tudorovců, politickou situaci, intriky a rivalitu mezi panovníky. Pokusím se najít a obasnit důvod vzniku těchto říkanek, důležitost jejich používání na základní škole, dobový význam a možné využití v hodinách anglického jazyka. Vynasnažím se ukazát rozdíl jejich využití v době jejich vzniku a nyní a představit jejich lingivstický i historický aspekt.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on explaining historical background of nursery rhymes and their analysis. It deals with rhymes which originated in England during the period of the English reformation in 16th century. This work portrays historical events of the era which led to the creation of these rhymes, which are analysed individually, and their original meaning is explained. The area of rhymes that have been selected for further research are connected to the reformation of the English church during the reign of the Tudors in England, Henry VIII., Mary I. Tudor and Elizabeth I. in particular. These rhymes reflect the view of common people at the church reformation, the plague season, the Tudor reign, political situation, intrigues, and rivalry between monarchs. I will try to find and clarify the reason why these rhymes were created, the importance of their use at primary school, meaning nowadays and their possible application in English lessons. I will try to show the difference of their use back then and nowadays and present their linguistic and historical aspect.
