Algoritmization of batch corrections of selected typographic-ortographic phenomena in Czech

Abstract:

Předkládaná práce v teoretické část podává stručné pojednání o pravopise a interpunkci, která se k pravopisu v české tradici řadí. Krátce je také vysvětleno, co je typografie a regulární výrazy. V práci zavádíme termín typograficko-pravopisný jev; jde o ty jevy, které jsou společné jak typografii, tak pravopisu: např. sazba interpunkčních znamének a jiných znaků; sazba značek, zkratek a číslic; sazba mezer (zejména nezlomitelných); dělení slov a psaní velkých písmen mimo propria. Součástí teoretické části je popis pravidel sazby jednotlivých interpunkčních znamének a jiných znaků v různých situacích a popis nejčastějších chyb v jejich sazbě. V praktické části popisujeme správnou a chybnou sazbu jednotlivých interpunkčních znamének a jiných znaků ve vybraných situacích pomocí regulárních výrazů, díky nimž můžeme provádět hromadné textové opravy. Součástí práce jsou dvě přehledové tabulky pro rychlou orientaci ve správné sazbě.

Abstract:

The presented work is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The aim of the theoretical part is to show a brief treatise on orthography and punctuation that is considered as a specific part of orthography in the Czech tradition. It’s also shortly explained what typography and regular expressions (regex, RE) are. We set up the term typographic-orthographic phenomenon; it is a phenomenon that is common both for typography and orthography: for example, the typesetting of punctuation marks and other non-letter characters; typesetting of symbols, abbreviations and numerals; typesetting of spaces (especially non-breaking); hyphenation and the rules of capital letters usage (except for proper names). In the theoretical part, there is the description of the rules of typesetting of punctuation marks and other non-letter characters in different situations and the description of the most frequent mistakes. In the practical part, we describe the correct and incorrect typesetting of punctuation marks and other non-letter characters in chosen situations by regular expressions. Thanks to them we can do batch text corrections. The work has two appendices: summarizing tables for fast orientation in correct typesetting.
