Social Construction of the Relaxation and Rest by street social workers working with Gypsy minority

Abstract:

Diplomová práce zkoumá sociální konstrukci relaxace a odpočinku u terénních sociálních pracovníků pracujících s romskou menšinou. Zaměřuje se na způsoby, kterými terénní sociální pracovníci pracující s romskou menšinou kategorizují, hovoří a idealizují relaxaci a odpočinek. V teoretické části jsou popsány klíčové koncepty sociální konstrukce, kterými je kategorizace, stereotypizace, idealizace a diskurs. Dále pak seznamuje s odpočinkem a relaxací, se sociální prací s romskou menšinou a to konkrétně se specifiky práce s touto cílovou skupinou a jednou z konkrétních forem terénní sociální práce. Výzkum práce je kvalitativní a byl realizován polostrukturovaným rozhovorem s šesti sociálními pracovníky a čtyřmi pracovníky v sociálních službách ve dvou neziskových organizacích. Výsledky interpretace zahrnují skutečnost, že pracovníci pojmy relaxace a odpočinek chápou rozdílně. Odpočinek pracovníkům pomáhá k dosažení pohody a zažívání well-being. Relexaci si pracovníci vysvětlují jako prostředek k dosažení úlevy. Cílem pracovníků je tedy dosáhnout změny v dosavadním postoji k odpočinku a relaxaci a změnit tak přístup plánování svého času. Tyto ideály terénních sociálních pracovníků v podobě změny jejich osobního přístupu k odpočinku a relaxaci jsou představy, které jsou z jejich pohledu dobré, ale jimi samotnými příliš nevykonávatelné.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis looks into the social construction of relaxation and a rest of social workers in terrain who work with Romany ethnic minority. The theses focuses on social workers' ways of categorization, conversation and idealizationof relaxation and rest. There are key concepts of social construction which represents categorization, stereotypization idealisation and discurs described in the theoretical part of my theses. It also introduces us to relaxation and rest in frame of social work with Romany minority and its specifics. The research of this theses is qualitative; it has been realized by means of half-structured interview with six social workers and four workers in social services in frame of two non-profit organizations. The outcomes of interpretation include the fact that workers understand to the terms such as relaxation and rest in vary ways. The rest is helping workers to achieve ease and state of well-being. The relaxation is explained by workers as means to achieve some relief. The workers’ aim is to reach change in current attitude of theirs to the idea of rest and relaxation itself and therefore to change their attitude towards time management and planning of their activities. These ideals of social workers in terrain, interpreted as change of their personal attitude towards rest and relaxation, are conceptions which, as they alone indicate, useful but not realizable or practicable in everyday practice.
