Self-stigma and quality of life in mentally ill people

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se věnuje tématu sebestigmatizace a kvalitě života u duševně nemocných. Cílem výzkumu bylo zjistit míru pociťované sebestigmatizace a subjektivně vnímané kvality života u pacientů napříč psychiatrickými diagnózami. Zjišťovali jsme, zda by počet hospitalizací mohl ovlivňovat jejich pociťovanou míru. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 54 osob. Jednalo se o nemocné s diagnózou schizofrenie, dále nemocné s afektivními poruchami, nemocné s problematikou závislostí a nemocné s poruchami osobnosti. Pro náš výzkum jsme předkládali dotazník subjektivně vnímané kvality života WHOQOL-BREF, dotazník sebestigmatiazce ISMI a Beckův depresivní inventář (BDI-II). Na našem souboru respondentů se nepotvrdila subjektivně vnímaná snížená kvalita života ani zvýšená míra sebestigmatizace, která by souvisela s duševní nemocí. Počet léčení nijak neovlivňoval míru sebestigmatizace ani subjektivně vnímanou kvalitu života. Nezjistili jsme žádné statisticky významné rozdíly v míře sebestigmatizace a subjektivně vnímané kvalitě života mezi jednotlivými skupinami onemocnění.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the issue of stigmatization and quality of life of people with mental disorder. The aim of this research is to determine the amount of felt self-stigmatization and subjectively perceived quality of life in patients diagnosed with various mental disorders. We searched whether the amount of hospitalizations could have affected their self-stigmatization and quality of life. The research group consisted of 60 people. These patients were diagnosed with schizophrenia, as well as patients with affective disorders, addiction problems and personality disorders. For the purpose of this study we used questionnaire for subjectively perceived quality of life WHOQOL-BREF, self-stigmatization questionnaire ISMI and Beck's depressive inventory (BDI-II). Our group of respondents did not confirm the depreciation of subjectively perceived quality of life nor was the rate of self-stigmatization increased. In any way the amount of hospitalizations did not have an effect on the self-stigmatization nor the subjectively perceived quality of life. We have not found statistically significant differences between self-stigmatization and subjectively perceived quality of life between each group of mental disorders.
