Cyberpunk like literary genre

Abstract:

Diplomová práce „Kyberpunk jako literární žánr“ pojednává o literárním stylu, který je určitým typem populární vědecké literatury. Protože se kyberpunk snaží setřít hranice mezi kyberprostorem a skutečným světem, je koncept kyberprostoru vysvětlen již v úvodu práce zároveň s pojmy virtuální realita a matrix. Kyberpunk je chápán jako kulturní a společenský fenomén a také jako žánr, jehož vznik, vývoj a tematiku popisuje kapitola druhá. Protikladem kyberpunku se stal biopunk, který se zrodil v České Republice. Kapitola nazvaná Autoři kyberpunku představuje zahraniční i české spisovatele v čele s W. Gibsonem, B. Sterlingem, J. Shirleyem, R. Ruckerem a spíše zajímavým než známým M. Shirowem. Většinou kromě základních informací o jednotlivých autorech obsahuje tato část také informace o současné aktivitě spisovatelů. V závěru práce upozorňuji na některé vlivy kyberpunku, abychom si uvědomili souvislosti mezi realitou a vizemi kyberpunkové literatury.

Abstract:

Diploma thesis „Cyberpunk like literary genre“ deals with a literary style, which is a certain type of popular scientific literature. The Conception of cyberspace has been previously explained in the introduction of work, with conceptions, virtual reality and matrix, because cyberpunk endevour to close the gap between cyberspace and real life. Cyberpunk is taken like cultural and social phenomenon and too like genre, whose origin, evolution and subject matter are described in the second chapter. Biopunk is the antitheses of cyberpunk and it originated in the Czech Republic. The chapter named Cyberpunk's authors presents foreign & czech writers, the leading authors being W. Gibson, B. Sterling, J. Shirley, R. Rucker, and rather more interesting than well known, M. Shirow. Basic information about these authors is included in the text, together with their current activities and projects. In the final chapter, I call attentation to some cyberpunk influences so that we are aware of the connection between reality and the visions of cyberpunk literature.
