Interpersonal dispositions and self-evaluation of empathic skills

Abstract:

Tato studie se zaměřuje na interindividuální rozdíly a jejich roli v sebehodnocení empatie. Cílem výzkumu bylo na základě teorie ověřit možné vtahy mezi zvolenými osobnostními rysy, negativní afektivitou a empatií. Z osobnostních rysů jsem hlouběji zkoumala potřebu kognitivního uzavření (NFCC), citlivost vůči odmítnutí (RS) a interpersonální závislost (ID). Studie se zúčastnilo 170, respektive 169 mladých dospělých ve věku 20 až 30 let. Sběr dat a analýza výsledků proběhly kvantitativní metodou. Na všechny zkoumané rysy, stejně jako na negativní afektivitu a empatie je usuzováno za pomoci sebeposuzovacích škál. Očekávané vztahy se podařilo podpořit jen částečně. Výsledky naznačují, že některé vztahy mohou být dokonce v rozporu s původními předpoklady. Zdravá závislost koreluje se všemi výše zmíněnými rysy negativně. Vztahy s negativní afektivitou jsou relativně slabé nebo nebyly statisticky významné. Nejsilnějším a jediným prediktorem sebehodnocení afektivní empatie byla zdravá závislost. V případě afektivní empatie nejvíce rozptylu vysvětluje závislost destruktivní. Nalezené vztahy by bylo vhodné ověřit v dalších studiích.

Abstract:

This study focuses on interindividual differences and their role in self-reported questionnaire of empathy. The goal of the research was to verify the possible tensions between chosen personality traits, negative affectivity and empathy. From personality traits, I have explored the need for cognitive closure (NFCC), rejection sensitivity (RS) and interpersonal dependency (ID). The study was attended by 170 or more precisely by 169 young adults aged 20 to 30 years. Data collection and statistical analysis were performed using a quantitative method. All the personality traits examined, as well as negative affectivity and empathy, are judged by self-reported scales. Expected relationships were only partially supported. The results suggest that some relationships may even conflict with the original assumptions. Healthy dependence correlates negatively with all the above-mentioned personality traits. Relationships with negative affectivity are relatively weak or not statistically significant. The most powerful and only predictor of self-reported affective empathy was healthy dependence. In the case of affective empathy, the most of the variance is explained by destructive dependency. It could be useful to validate found relationship in futher studies.
