Occurrence of selected pathogenic microorganisms (Toxoplasma, Ehrlichia and Ricketsia spp.) in small mites

Abstract:

Tato práce pojednává o výskytu některých vybraných patogenů v hematofágních roztočích. Zaměřuje se zejména na popis daných druhů, vztahů mezi nimi a prevenci styku s patogeny. V práci jsou popsané terénní a laboratorní metody používané ve výzkumu. Práce také shrnuje vybrané informace ze studií zabývajících se infekcemi a koinfekcemi různých hematofágních roztočů právě vybranými patogeny. Toxoplasma gondii, Ehrlichia spp. a Rickettsia spp. patří mezi zoonotické organismy, což znamená, že jsou přenosné z člověka na obratlovce a naopak. Všechny tři patogeny k tomuto účelu používají, obligátně nebo fakultativně, hematofágní roztoče, nejčastěji různé druhy klíšťatovitých (Ixoidea) sajících krev na hostitelích. Studium promořenosti populací klíšťat těmito patogeny, stejně jako studium koinfekcí, pomáhá k lepší představě o pravděpodobnosti a jiných parametrech nákazy těmito patogeny.

Abstract:

This thesis discusses occurence of some selected pathogens in haematophagous mites. It’s focused mainly on description of given species, their relations and prevention of contact with pathogens. In this thesis, there are discribed field and laboratory methods used in research. This thesis also concludes selected information from studies, which follow up infections and coinfections of different haematophagous mites with these selected pathogens. Toxoplasma gondii, Ehrlichia spp. and Rickettsia spp. belong to zoonotic organisms, which means, they can be transmitted from human to a vertebrate and vice versa. All of these three pathogens use for this purpose, obligately or facultatively, haematophagous mites, usualy some member of Ixoidea family, which suck blood on their hosts. Study of prevalence of infections and coinfections with these pathogens of tick population helps to form better picture of probability and other parameters of infectios with these pathogens.
