Aesthetic function and image of history: wars of Vendée and Bretagne in the 19th century litterature

Abstract:

Our work deals, globally with a specific genre of the literature, the historical novel. It’s focused on the novels which deals one period of the French revolution; the civil war between the republicans and the royalists in the west of France. It’s quite important phenomena: we know about 80 romans and novels from 19th century, sometimes written by very famous authors (Victor Hugo, Honoré de Balzac, Alexandre Dumas), other works are absolutely forgotten today. It was a theme not just very popular but also very controversial because of his actualisation by the political and ideological conflicts all along the century. For this reason, the roman of the Vendée and Chouans allows studying the relation between the past and the present in the literature. The thesis deals with the evolution of the genre un the XIXth century and then the way how the image of history which is formed and deformed by the literature by analyse of some elements which are specific for this novels: the conception of the literary space, the theme of love, the historical characters, etc. Our analyse is based on the czech structural theory (the fonctionnal model of the work of art) and the fictionnal world theory. It shows a dialectic between the historical novel and the reality caused by the domination of the aesthetical function.

Abstract:

Práce pojednává o specifickém literárním žánru, o historickém románu. Konkrétně je zaměřená na ta díla, která pojednávají o jedné z epizod francouzské revoluce, občanské válce mezi republikány a royalisty na západě Francie. Jedná se o vcelku významný fenomén: z 19. století pochází asi 80 románů a novel, některé napsané známými autory (Victor Hugo, Honoré de Balzac, Alexandre Dumas), jiné jsou dnes zcela zapomenuté. Toto téma bylo nejen velmi populární, ale zároveň do jisté míry kontroverzní, neboť bylo aktualizované politickými a ideologickými konflikty během století. Proto se na základě románů o Vendée a Šuanech dá studovat vztah mezi minulostí a přítomností v literatuře. Dizertace popisuje vývoj žánru v 19. století a především způsob, jaký je obraz historie formován a deformován literaturou skrze analýzu některých typických prvků tohoto žánru: pojetí prostoru, motiv lásky, historické postavy, atd. Naše analýza je založena na české strukturální teorii (funkční pojetí uměleckého díla) a teorii fikčních světů. Dokládá existenci dialektiky mezi světem historického románu a historickou skutečností způsobenou dominancí estetické funkce.
