V průběhu celé historie lidstva lidé migrovali za účelem nalezení vhodnějších podmínek pro život. S technickým vývojem rostla i vzdálenost možného cíle jejich cesty. Od devatenáctého století je pro evropské emigranty nejčastějším cílem Amerika. Tato práce se zabývá stěhováním lidí do Ameriky a zpět v období od roku 1848 do první světové války.
