The Asian Concept of Human Rights

Abstract:

This thesis analyses the Asian concept of human rights and criticism of the Western concept of human rights which originates in the Asian region. Major attention is paid to criticism and concept emerging from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. The thesis seeks to verify the hypothesis that the argument of cultural relativism is the core aspect of the Asian criticism of the Western concept of human rights. The first part of the thesis defines the concepts of universalism and cultural relativism. The second part analyses the Asian concept of human rights itself and identifies the arguments which are at the core of Asian criticism of the Western concept of human rights.

Abstract:

Táto práca analyzuje ázijský koncept ľudských práv a kritiku západného konceptu ľudských práv, ktorá vychádza z regiónu Ázie. Primárna pozornosť je venovaná kritike a konceptu vychádzajúceho zo Singapuru, Malajzie a Indonézie. Práca overuje hypotézu, že základom ázijskej kritiky západného konceptu ľudských práv je argument kultúrneho relativizmu. Prvá časť práce definuje koncepty univerzalizmu a kultúrneho relativizmu. Druhá časť práce analyzuje samotný ázijský koncept ľudských práv a definuje argumenty, ktoré tvoria základ ázijskej kritiky západného konceptu ľudských práv.
