Oldřich II of Rožmberk - His Political Career and Relations to Sigismund of Luxembourg

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je analyzovat a popsat ranou kariéru Oldřicha II. z Rožmberka, a to v souvislosti s jeho vztahem se Zikmundem Lucemburským. Časové vymezení je stanoveno mezi roky 1418 (Oldřich II. převzal správu svých majetků) a 1437 (Zikmundova smrt), a z naprosté většiny tak zasahuje do složitého období husitských válek. Práce je vytvořena na základě důkladného studia pramenů a doplněna o poznatky z literatury a potřebný kontext dané doby. Výsledkem je dílčí revize stávajících výzkumů a podrobně zpracovaný pohled na proměnu mladého nezkušeného šlechtice v sebejistého pragmatického politika a vývoj jeho vztahu se Zikmundem a jeho projevy.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to provide an in-depth overview of the early career of Oldřich II. of Rožmberk, which is connected to his relationship with Sigismund of Luxemburg. The time range of the research is set between the years 1418 (Oldřich II. assumed administration of his possesions) and 1437 (death of Sigismund), which mostly corresponds to the difficult period of the Hussite wars. The thesis is based on a thorough research of historical sources and analysis of literature, which are further complemented by the essential context of the time. The outcome encompasses a partial revision of the current research, a detailed examination of Oldřich´s change from a young inexperienced noble to a confident pragmatic politician, along with the development of his relationship to Sigismund as well as its manifestations.
