Research methods of classics and contemporary authors of urban sociology

Abstract:

Text představuje vývoj v disciplíně sociologie města, která je diskutována již od klasiků sociologie (Durkheim, Tönnies, Weber, Simmel), přes Chicagskou školu až po vybrané texty současníků. Ukazuje, jaká témata byla klíčová pro badatele minulé a jaké jsou dnešní možné přístupy ke zkoumání města. V první kapitole se práce věnuje vymezení pojmu města pro potřeby sociologického bádání. V kapitole chicagské školy práce představuje dvě hlavní publikace a nastiňuje proud myšlenek ohledně urbánního myšlení v této době, a identifikuje hlavní metodologické postupy doby. Z přístupů současníků jsou v práci identifikované dva hlavní proudy přístupu ke studiu města. Prvním je pohled na město skrze materialitu v něm obsaženou a její zpětné působení na obyvatelé, kam je zařazena i problematika městského plánování, a druhý je pohled na město skrze metodu geografie času, tedy rozbor časoprostorových cest aktérů, přičemž je rozebírán článek o obyvatelích obcí na perifériích měst, město je tak popisováno zevnějšku.

Abstract:

This text presents the developments in a field of urban sociology, which has been discussed since the classics of sociology (Durkheim, Tönnies, Weber, Simmel), Chicago school of sociology and by contemporaries of the selected texts. It shows what topics were crucial for scholars of the past and what are current possible approaches for city research. In the first chapter, thesis deals with defining the term "city" for the needs of sociological research. In chapter "Chicago school" thesis presents two main publications and outlines stream of thoughts about urban thinking at this time, and identifies the main methodological approaches of the era. From selected texts of the contemporaries the work identifies two main streams of approach to the research of the city.The first is the view of the city through the materiality contained within and it's feedback to the residents, it also includes issue of the urban planning. The second is an observation on a city and lives in it through the method of a time-geography, therefore through time-spatial paths of a inhibitans of villages located in a peripheral villages, therefore the city is described by its edges.
