Nutrition for seniors in the context of health and social care

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem diplomové práce je posoudit nutriční stav seniorů. Dalším cílem bylo posoudit, zda má vliv na nutriční stav seniora věk, pohlaví, délka pobytu, soběstačnost, kognitivní stav a dieta. Metodika: Jedná se o kvantitativní výzkum. Průzkumné šetření bylo realizováno dotazníkovou metodou od září do prosince 2016. Byly zvoleny standardizované dotazníky škála pro hodnocení stavu výživy (MNA), test kognitivních funkcí (MMSE) a test základních všedních činností podle Barthela (ADL), které byly doplněny otázkami zaměřené na charakteristiku respondentů. Soubor tvořilo 69 respondentů. Minimální věk byl 65 let. Výzkumu předcházelo získání souhlasu vybrané instituce, která si přála zachovat anonymitu. Pro základní popis souboru byla použita popisná statistika (medián, aritmetický průměr, směrodatná odchylka, min. a max. hodnota) a frekvenční tabulky. Pro testování hypotéz byl použit Fisherův exaktní test. Statistické testy byly hodnoceny na hladině významnosti 5 %. Pro zpracování byl použit program Stata verze 13. Výsledky: Průzkumem bylo zjištěno, že 26 respondentů (37,7 %) se nacházelo v riziku podvýživy a 14 respondentů (20,3 %) trpí podvýživou. Po statistickém zpracování dotazníků bylo zjištěno, že soběstačnost, pohlaví, kognitivní funkce a dieta (kašovitá a tekutá) ovlivňují nutriční stav seniorů. Věk a délka pobytu nemají vliv na nutriční stav seniorů. Závěr: Vzhledem k stále narůstajícímu počtu seniorů ve vyspělých zemích je problematika výživy a dlouhodobé péče často diskutovaným tématem. Výživa, soběstačnost, stav kognitivních funkcí by mělo být součástí geriatrického vyšetření. Péče o seniora by měla být komplexní se zachováním, co největší míry autonomie.

Abstract:

Objective: The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the nutritional status of the elderly. Another objective was to assess whether the nutritional status of senior is influenced by age, sex, length of stay, self-sufficiency, cognitive status and diet. Methods: This is a quantitative research. Exploratory survey was carried out by questionnaire from September to December 2016. Standardized questionnaires were selected Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA), Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Barthel Activities of Daily Living Index (ADL), which were amended with questions focused on the characteristics of the respondents . The sample consisted of 69 respondents. Minimum age is 65 years. Research was prevented by obtaining the consent of selected institution that wished to remain anonymous. Descriptive statistics was used for a basic description (median, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, min. and max. value) and the frequency table. To test the hypotheses Fisher's exact test was used. Statistical tests were evaluated at a significance level of 5%. Software Stata version 13 was used for processing the data. Results: The survey found that 26 respondents (37.7%) were at risk of malnutrition and 14 respondents (20.3%) malnourished. It was revealed after statistical processing of questionnaires that self-sufficiency, sex, cognitive functions and diet (mushy and liquid) influence the nutritional status of the elderly. Age and length of stay have no impact on the nutritional status of the elderly. Conclusion: Due to the ever increasing number of elderly people in developed countries is the issue of nutrition and long-term care often discussed topic. Nutrition, self-sufficiency, cognitive status should be part of a geriatric examinations. Caring for the elderly should be comprehensive while maintaining the largest possible degree of autonomy.
