Rock Music in Ostrava in the Era of Normalization

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce zachycuje vývoj rockové hudby v Ostravě. Na základě pramenů získaných metodou orální historie, archivních pramenů; a v konfrontaci s odbornou literaturou zasazuje téma do rámce "normalizačního" Československa respektive mechanismu bipolárního světa. Cílem práce je charakterizovat základní vývojové trendy, formy produkce a přístupu aktérů k ní i ke společnosti; přiblížit všední dobovou realitu v prostředí hudebníků. V neposlední řadě spis předkládá různorodé retrospektivní interpretace tvořící základní kontury vnímání minulosti (pochopitelně tedy i současnosti).

Abstract:

The presented diploma thesis describes the development of rock music in Ostrava. Based on determinants obtained by oral history, archival sources, and in confrontation with the specialized literature it urges the issue within the framework of the "normalization" of Czechoslovakia or the mechanism of the bipolar world. The aims of the thesis are to characterize the basic developmental trends, the forms of the produce and the attitude of participants to it and to the society; to give insight into the period everyday reality under the musicians' environment. Finally, the work submitted various retrospective interpretations forming the basic shapes of perceptions of the past (as well as the present).
