ADHD and its persistent form in adulthood

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá syndromem ADHD, neboli poruchou pozornosti s hyperaktivitou u dospělé populace. Tato porucha byla donedávna považována za záležitost týkající se výlučně dětí a pracovalo se s předpokladem, že příznaky poruchy v adolescenci a mladé dospělosti odezní. Aktuální vědecká a klinická pozorování však dokazují, že se jedná o poruchu s celoživotním průběhem, jejíž klinický obraz se mění v závislosti na věku jedince. Práce je pojata jako teoretický koncept, který předkládá nezbytné informace pro správné porozumění této problematice, ale především poukazuje na široké souvislosti, které se s touto poruchou pojí. Předloženy jsou informace o etiologii poruchy, teoretických pojetích, současné klasifikaci dle diagnostických manuálů MKN 10 a DSM-V včetně diferenciální diagnostiky a možných komorbidit. Čtenáře také seznamuje s postupy a metodami diagnostiky ADHD u dospělých jedinců a s možnostmi farmakologické i psychologické terapie. Text práce je pro ilustraci projevů a důsledků poruchy doplněn o přepis anamnestického rozhovoru s mladým dospělým respondentem.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is focused on ADHD (i.e. attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) in adults. Until recently this disorder was considered to be solely a matter of childhood and it was assumed, that the symptoms subside in adolescence and young adulthood. However, current scientific and clinical observations show that the disorder is present across lifespan and its clinical picture varies depending on the age of the individual. The work is conceived as a theoretical concept, which presents the information necessary for a proper understanding of this issue, but also highlights the broad context, which is associated with this disorder. We present information about the etiology of the disorder, theoretical concepts, current classification of the disorder according to diagnostic manuals ICD-10 and DSM-V, including differential diagnosis and possible comorbidities. Readers also get acquainted with the methods and procedures of diagnosing adult ADHD, and with the possibilities of pharmacological and psychological therapy for the disorder. To illustrate symptoms and consequences of ADHD, the transcript of anamnestic interview with a young adult respondent is attached.
