The Analysis of the Translation Procedures Used When Translating from French to Czech

Abstract:

Diplomová práce poskytuje náhled na problematiku překladatelského procesu z hlediska teoretického i praktického se zaměřením na překlad odborných textů z francouzštiny do češtiny. Teoretická část práce předkládá poznatky z oblasti teorie překladu odborných textů, popisuje jednotlivé etapy překladatelského procesu a uvádí širokou škálu překladatelských postupů a metod, jež vycházejí ze zpracování několika teoretiků za účelem možnosti srovnání odlišných přístupů k otázce překladu. Praktická část diplomové práce spočívá v podrobné analýze četnosti užití uvedených překladatelských postupů ve vybraných novinových článcích. Výsledky analýzy jsou následně detailně popsány a znázorněny pomocí grafů. Součástí praktické části práce je rovněž kritická analýza vybraných překladů, jejímž cílem je poukázat na lexikální, gramatické a stylistické chyby, kterých se překladatelé často dopouštějí, a zároveň navrhnout jejich adekvátní řešení.

Abstract:

The master's thesis provides an overview of the translation process problems in terms of theory and practice with a focus on the translation of specialized texts from French to Czech. The theoretical part of the thesis presents the knowledge concerning the theory of translation of specialized texts, describes the particular stages of the translation process and provides a wide range of the translation procedures and methods which are based on the publications by several theorists in order to enable the comparison of different approaches to the translation issues. The practical part of the master's thesis is based on a detailed analysis of the usage frequency of the aforementioned translation procedures in selected newspaper articles. The analysis results are subsequently described in detail and represented by graphs. The practical part of the thesis also includes a critical analysis of selected translations, which aims to point out the lexical, grammatical and stylistic errors frequently made by translators, and to propose their appropriate solutions as well.
