Analysis of horse racing in the Czech Republic in the last 20 years

Abstract:

Diplomová práce „Analýza dostihového provozu v České republice v posledních 20 letech“ se zabývá historii, původem a také výkonnostními zkouškami anglického plnokrevníka. Dále popisuje vznik a vývoj dostihů, rozdělení dostihů a v neposlední řadě dostihovou soustavu v České republice. Experimentální část práce zhodnocuje vývoj dostihového provozu v České republice a statistické vyhodnocení vlivu pohlaví, barvy, země původu a roku startu koní na jejich výkonnost. Data byla použita databáze Jockey clubu České republiky. Do naší analýzy byli vybráni pouze 3 letí koně běhající rovinové dostihy v letech 2000, 2008 a 2017.Data byla zpracována a statisticky vyhodnocena v programu STATISTICA 2012. Dostihová výkonnost byla stanovena dle tzv. generálního handicapu (GH) a hodnot klasifikace.Statisticky průkazný vliv na výkonnost byl zjištěn u pohlaví, roku startu a země původu (suffix). Při testování pohlaví bylo zjištěno, že klisny (54,86 kg) jsou statisticky vysoce průkazně horší než valaši (59,35 kg) a hřebci (65,23 kg). V roce 2000 bylo pohlaví statisticky neprůkazné, na rozdíl od roku 2008 a 2017, kdy byli hřebci statisticky průkazně lepší než klisny a valaši. Při testování vlivu barvy se ukázalo, že barva nemá vliv na výkonnost koní. Pouze v roce 2000 nastala odchylka, kdy barva vyšla statisticky průkazně. Při testování podle země původu se ve všech letech prokázalo, že koně pocházející z České republiky (52,79 kg) jsou statisticky průkazně horší než koně z Velké Británie nebo Irska (67,19 kg) či ostatních zemí (68,27 kg). Při testování dle roku startu jsme prokázali, že výkonnost tříletých rovinových koní se směrem do současnosti zlepšuje.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis "Analysis of horse racing in the Czech Republic in the last 20 years," deals with the history, origin and the performance testing of the English Thoroughbred. It also describes the beginnings and evolution of the races, the division of the races, and, last but not least, the racing system in the Czech Republic. The experimental part of the thesis evaluates the development of horse racing in the Czech Republic and statistical evaluation of the influence of sex, color, country of origin and year of the start of the horses on their performance. The data used in the thesis come from the database of the Jockey Club of the Czech Republic. Horses chosen into the analysis are 3 years old animals running flat racing in the years 2000, 2008 and 2017.The data has been processed and statistically evaluated in the programme STATISTICA 2012. Racing performance was determined according to the so-called handicap (GH) and values of classification.A statistically conclusive influence on the performance of horses have sex, year of the start and the country of origin (the suffix). It was found that mares (54,86 kg) are statistically clearly worse than geldings (59,35 kg) and stallions (65,23 kg). In the year 2000 sex was statistically inconclusive, as opposed to the year 2008 and 2017, when stallions were statistically better than mares and geldings. When testing the color of the horses on their performance it was proofed that it has no effect. The only deviation showed up in the year when color came out statistically relevant. Tests done by the country of origin showed that the horses from the United States (52,79 kg) are statistically worse than horses from the UK or Ireland (67,19 kg) or other countries (68,27 kg). It was proofed that the quality of performance of the three-year old flat horses is getting better towards present.
