The Role of Czech Republic in the Congress Tourism

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá trhem kongresového cestovního ruchu v České republice. Kongresový cestovní ruch má mnoho funkcí. Především má funkci ekonomickou, vzdělávací, informační a sociální. Hlavním cílem této diplomové práce je zhodnocení postavení České republiky na trhu kongresového cestovního ruchu a porovnání Prahy a Vídně jako destinace vhodné pro pořádání kongresových akcí. Práce je rozdělena do pěti kapitol. V teoretické části práce je zpracována literární rešerše odborných publikací, která je doplněna o aktuální internetové zdroje. Je zde definován kongresový cestovní ruch, popsán jeho vývoj, význam, funkce a v závěru celé kapitoly je také obecně představen pojem destinační management. Druhá kapitola je zaměřena na mezinárodní postavení kongresového cestovního ruchu. Třetí kapitola se věnuje analýze kongresového cestovního ruchu v České republice. Je zde uvedena její pozice v mezinárodním žebříčku, jsou zde zhodnoceny faktory ovlivňující její postavení a představeny zainteresované subjekty. Ve čtvrté kapitole je realizována komparace kongresové Prahy a Vídně. V závěrečné kapitole je analyzováno postavení České republiky na mezinárodním kongresovém trhu, jsou zde formulovány návrhy na zlepšení situace a jsou zde také shrnuty dosavadní dopady pandemie COVID-19. I přestože má celá Česká republika na mezinárodním kongresovém cestovním ruchu důstojné postavení, zejména díky Praze, existuje zde prostor pro zlepšení jejího potenciálu. V komplexním porování obou destinací vychází lépe Vídeň.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis focusses on the congress tourism in the Czech Republic. The congress tourism has economic, educational, informational and social functions. The main goal of this thesis is to evaluate the position of the Czech Republic in the congress tourism and to compare Prague and Vienna as destinations suitable for organizing congress events. The thesis is divided into five main chapters. In the first chapter, the analysis of scientific literature and the analysis of relevant online resources are presented. This part defines the congress tourism, his evolution, importance, functions and the term destination management is generally explained. The second chapter is focused on the analysis of international congress tourism. In the third chapter, the analysis of congress tourism in the Czech Republic is realized, the position of this country on the international scale is presented, the affected factors are evaluated and all involved stakeholders are presented. The comparison of Prague and Vienna as congress destinations is realized in the fourth chapter. In the last chapter, the current position of congress tourism in the Czech Republic is assessed, suggestions for improvements are formulated and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is summarized. This thesis comes to the conclusion that even though the Czech Republic has a dignified position in the congress tourism, mainly due to Prague, there is still room for improving its potential. The winner of the comparison has become Vienna.
