Burnout at work: methods of reducing and preventing burnout at work

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of burnout, describing the concept, causes and reasons for burnout. It details what symptoms and signs exist that help to recognize the state of burnout in individuals. It also outlines Freudenberger's process by which a person finds himself in this state and it describes the four-stage model of the „burn-out" syndrome according to Christina Maslach. It will try to indicate possible preventions that can be used to avoid burn-out and, in the unwanted state of burnout, to present the most common methods by which the state of burnout can be reduced and reversed. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyse the methods of reducing burnout in practice and to suggest possible preventions. For this analysis, the travel agency Blue style was chosen and two questionnaires were sent out to its employees. Questionnaire 1 focuses on the state of burnout in employees and how they subjectively perceive this state. From questionnaire 1, it was found that employees are familiar with the condition, they actively practice the available preventions, they have knowledge of several methods to reduce burnout in case they experience the condition, but most of them do not yet experience the burnout condition. Questionnaire 2 focused on specific methods of reducing burnout in practice and was designed to find out which methods respondents felt were most effective. It turned out that they considered quality sleep, prioritizing and actively replenishing energy to be the most effective. Based on the responses of the respondents, relevant graphs were compiled to show the responses and opinions collected. The practical part also included suggesting possible preventions to the selected organization on the issue of burnout based on the responses and subjective opinions of the respondents.

Abstract:

Táto bakalárska práca sa zaoberá problematikou vyhorenia, popisuje pojem, príčiny a dôvody vyhorenia. Detailne približuje aké existujú symptómy a príznaky, ktoré pomáhajú rozpoznať stav vyhorenia u jednotlivcov. Taktiež uvádza Freudenbergerov postup, akým sa v danom stave človek ocitne a opisuje štvorfázový model „burn-out“ syndrómu podľa Christiny Maslach Pokúsi sa uviesť prípadné prevencie, ktorými je možno predísť „burn-out“-u a v nežiadúcom stave vyskytnutia sa vyhorenia predstaviť najčastejšie metódy, ktorými je stav vyhorenia možné znížiť a zvrátiť. Cieľom tejto bakalárskej práce je analyzovať metódy znižovania vyhorenia v praxi a navrhnúť možné prevencie. Na túto analýzu bola zvolená cestovná kancelária Blue style, ktorej zamestnancom boli rozoslané dva dotazníky. Dotazník č.1 sa zameriava na stav vyhorenia u zamestnancov a ako tento stav subjektívne vnímajú. Z dotazníku č.1 bolo zistené, že zamestnanci sú oboznámený s týmto stavom, aktívne praktizujú dostupné prevencie, majú znalosť o viacerých metódach znižovania vyhorenia, v prípade žeby u nich tento stav nastal a väčšia časť zamestnancov vybranej organizácie stav vyhorenia zatiaľ neprežíva. Dotazník č.2 sa zacieľuje na konkrétne metódy znižovania vyhorenia v praxi a mal za úlohu zistiť, ktoré metódy sú najúčinnejšie podľa respondentov. Ukázalo sa, že za tri najefektívnejšie považujú kvalitný spánok, stanovenie si priorít a aktívne dopĺňanie energie. Na základe odpovedí respondentov boli zostavené príslušné grafy, ktoré zobrazujú zozbierané odpovede a názory. Súčasťou praktickej časti bolo taktiež navrhnúť možné prevencie zvolenej organizácii v problematike stavu vyhorenia na základe odpovedí a subjektívnych názorov respondentov.
